Subjects include Onderdonk's election as Assistant Bishop of Pennsylvania, opposition thereto, and consecration as bishop, 1827; his writings on episcopacy, reviews, and other articles; episcopal services performed by him in Maryland, 1829; succession to Bishop William White as Bishop of Pennsylvania, 1836; his views concerning the Diocese of Michigan and the election of Bishop McCoskry, 1836; his disapproval of the Reverend James Lloyd Breck's monastic missionary enterprise in the West, 1841; and many clergy matters. Substantial materials concern Onderdonk's trial and suspension, 1844; Bishop Whittingham's call for a special meeting of the House of Bishops to reconsider his case, 1849; the Reverend Charles H.
