Papers relating to the war service of two brothers - Herbert Chapman Hughes (1891-?) and Frank Hartley Hughes (1896-1921). The papers consist of a collection of photocopies interspersed with original photographs and letters (with transcripts)which document the military careers of the two brothers (compiled by Eva Creed); postcards sent by the boys to their parents and family while serving overseas (the majority to their sister May); souvenir postcards (of Egypt, France and England, a couple have been annotated); embroidered mats and handkerchiefs; a shell and ivory elephant housed in a tobacco tin; and miscellaneous items (including obituaries for Roy H. Clark and Ralph Lesley Broadbent, two photographs of a tank driving over a fortification, and an order form the war time story of 'The Ayesha'.
