Future Medical Engineering Based on Bionanotechnology
Combining engineering and medicine research projects with biological applications, the contributions in this volume constitute the efforts of both distinguished scientists and young investigators in various fields of biomedical engineering at Tohoku University, one of Japan's leading scientific research universities.The Tohoku University 21st Century COE Program ?Future Medical Engineering Based on Bionanotechnology? is ? out of 113 programmes chosen by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2002 - the only one program devoted to biomedical engineering. This book comprises the proceedings of the final closing symposium to be held in January 2007, and summarizes all the efforts of the program in a comprehensive manner. In total, more than 100 authors from the engineering and medical schools of Tohoku University have contributed to this volume, through which readers can understand all the research results carried out under the umbrella of the program.
13th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering
th On behalf of the organizing committee of the 13 International Conference on Biomedical Engineering, I extend our w- mest welcome to you. This series of conference began in 1983 and is jointly organized by the YLL School of Medicine and Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Singapore and the Biomedical Engineering Society (Singapore). First of all, I want to thank Mr Lim Chuan Poh, Chairman A*STAR who kindly agreed to be our Guest of Honour to give th the Opening Address amidst his busy schedule. I am delighted to report that the 13 ICBME has more than 600 participants from 40 countries. We have received very high quality papers and inevitably we had to turndown some papers....

The contents of this volume are the proceedings of the 23'd International Symposium on Acoustical Imaging which took place 13-16 April, 1997, in Boston, Massachusetts. The first Symposium met 25 years ago. Originally the Symposium met in California, then elsewhere within the United States but beginning in 1988 the Symposia began to meet outside of the United States as welL It is now being held about every eighteen months, alternately in the United States and then outside. The 29th International Symposium on Acoustical Imaging was held in Shonan Village, Kanagawa, Japan, April 15-18, 2007. This interdisciplinary Symposium has been taking place every two years since 1968 and forms a unique forum for advanced research, covering new technologies, developments, methods and theories in all areas of acoustics.
