As a spectroscopic method, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) has seen spectacular growth, both as a technique and in its applications. Today's applications of NMR span a wide range of scientific disciplines, from physics to biology to medicine. Each volume of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance comprises a combination of annual and biennial reports which together provide comprehensive coverage of the literature on this topic. This Specialist Periodical Report reflects the growing volume of published work involving NMR techniques and applications, in particular NMR of natural macromolecules, which is covered in two reports: NMR of Proteins and Nucleic Acids and NMR of Carbohydrates, Lipids and Membrane...
Many studies over the past decade and a half have indicated that vitamin A status is an important determinant of health. The World Bank now estimates that vitamin A intervention programs are some of the most cost-effective health strategies globally. This new book, written by leading investigators in the field, is the first to synthesize the many important studies to date. The authors identify and quantify the biological, clinical and public health impact of vitamin A deficiency on childhood growth, mortality and morbidity, including anemia and blindness. They deal with the epidemiologic and biological basis of these findings, and with the prevention and treatment of these disorders, particu...
This edited book is focused on SDG 15. This volume covers aspects of species and ecosystem modeling in understanding the complexity of ecological systems, restoration, protected area management, and species conservation. The book follows a systematic and situation-sensitive approach to discuss ecosystem and species modeling tools, approaches, science, case studies, opportunities, and gaps for enhancing conservation efforts, ensuring ecosystem resilience, and addressing sustainability issues. The book emphasizes on science, innovations, case studies, and strategic relevance as main pillars of using ecosystem and species modeling tools and implementing the outcomes and results. In addition, cl...
Forests are one of our most valuable resources, yet they are fast depleting with an impending ecological crisis in view. This new book explores the concept of sustainable forest management that involves the use of socially justifiable, economically viable, and ecologically sound strategies for sustainably managing forest resources for present and future generations without diminishing their value. It looks at sustainable forest management practices and highlights the aspects of forest resources, the importance of traditional knowledge, the need for conservation, the impact of climate change, and ecosystem services. It covers the scientific, technical, and socio-economical aspects of forests to further ensure the conservation of forest resources.
The book focuses on novel interpenetrating polymer network (IPN)/semi-IPN technologies for drug delivery and biomedical applications. The dynamism of the design and development of interpenetrating network polymers is based on their ability to provide free volume for the easy encapsulation of drugs in the three-dimensional network structure obtained by cross-linking two or more polymer networks. Natural polymer-based IPNs can deliver drugs at a controlled rate over an extended period of time, while novel IPNs ensure better mechanical strength and sustained/ controlled drug-delivery properties. This book presents an overview of the use of this technology to fabricate nanomedicine, hydrogels, nanoparticles, and microparticles, thereby unlocking IPN’s potential in the area of drug delivery and biomedical engineering. It also discusses applications of IPN systems in cancer therapy and tissue engineering, and describes the various IPN systems and their wide usage and applications in drug delivery.
In Vitamin A and the Immune Function, individuals representing a spectrum of disciplines elucidate the relationship between vitamin A and immune function. Through this range of perspectives, the contributors, speakers at the Symposium on the Relationship Between Vitamin A and Immune Function, offer a useful, corrective lens for a subject often viewed simplistically within a single area of study in which few books cover the topic exclusively. The goal of the symposium and this volume is to review what is known about the the relationship between a specific micronutrient and a complex physiologic process from many experts’points of view and to promote discussion and speculation on basic mecha...
Story Of The Moon Splitting Titled When The Moon Split A Biography Of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ This Story about an Islamic theological issue. For theories of formation of the Moon which involve fragments, See Origin of the Moon Accretion. The splitting of the moon (Arabic: انشقاق القمر) is a miracle in Muslim tradition attributed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. It is derived from the Quran, Surah Al Qamar verses 54:1-2, and mentioned by Muslim traditions such as the Asbab al-nuzul (context of revelation). Edited and Translated by: Tabassum Siraj, Michael Richardson, and Badr Azimbadi.
This pioneering research brings into focus the Islamic contribution and influence in the development of the modern law of the sea.
