A Town Called River

Returning to his hometown of Rijeka, Croatia, to wrap things up after his grandmother's passing, Paul gets more than he expected in terms of inheritance-way more than just a stuffy old apartment downtown. The legacy of his grandmother's work as a krsnik-a traditional magic user tasked with keeping the thin line between the humans and the things that prey on them-falls on his shoulders, threatening to change everything he thought he knew about life, the city he left behind so long ago, and himself. As the line keeps getting thinner, it'll soon be up to Paul, with help from some unexpected (and witchy) places, to prove worthy of his legacy while fighting for the city's humanity, and trying not to lose his own along the way.

Croatia: Past, Present and Future Perspectives

"Croatia is today popularly known as a beautiful country, with an excellent soccer team, but the rest of its long history is still not well known outside scholarly circles. It is less known for example that Croatia started as an ancient kingdom established in the 7th century. It lost its independence in the 11th century and had a troubled history until the first democratic elections in 1990 and independence in 1991. Since the Great Schism in the 11th century, Croatia has been the easternmost country of the Catholic West facing the Orthodox East. Attacked by the Ottoman Turks in the 15th century, it has been called ever since Antemurale Christianitatis (The Bulwark of Christianity). Croatia w...

Mistress of Geese

Mistress of Geese is a collection of folk horror tales about isolation, loneliness, destructive powers of nature, magic and creatures lurking in the dark. The undiscovered, occasionally almost uninhabited remote areas of the old European land of Croatia hold secrets only the bravest of women can find. The only question is, will they survive the discovery or be taken into darkness as the land demands? Jela lives in complete, self-imposed isolation, but when a malevolent curse falls down on the neighbouring town of Lepoglava, she needs to-quite simply-follow the geese. Bura lives in a remote village, hidden in the Velebit mountain range in the late 1950s, when she gets lost in the woods, which...

A krsnik keeps his friends close and his nightmares closer. Licking his wounds from the earth-shattering battles in Seasons of the River-trying not to beat himself up over bringing his friends into harm's way again and again-Paul, the krsnik of the City of Rijeka, will find himself up to his ears in the biggest challenge of his life, one rising from an unexpected source, all but lost to memory. His newfound duties as the magical protector of his city take him across the forests of his ancestral region, hot on the heels of missing tourists, misfortunate hikers, and new sorts of monsters lurking in the wilderness. All the while, messages keep appearing in his dreams, with next to no way to trace their origin in the waking world. As the pleas keep getting more urgent, and no less incomprehensible, Paul will need to step up to his inheritance once and for all, follow the traces of his family legacy, and lean on his friends to guide him places he never would have dared venture on his own-or risk losing everything he's worked for, along with his own self. Deep in the dark, a river flows... The thrilling conclusion to the Slavic urban fantasy trilogy A Town Called River.
