This meeting has been motivated by two events: the 85th birthday of Pierre Lelong, and the end of the third year of the European network "Complex analysis and analytic geometry" from the programme Human Capital and Mobility. For the first event, Mathematicians from Poland, Sweden, United States and France, whose work is particularly related to the one ofP. In this book, I present an expanded version of the contents of my lectures at a Seminar of the DMV (Deutsche Mathematiker Vereinigung) in Diisseldorf, June, 1986. The title "Nonlinear methods in complex geometry" already indicates a combination of techniques from nonlinear partial differential equations and geometric concepts. This book deals with integral representations of holomorphic functions of several complex variables, the multidimensional logarithmic residue, and the theory of multidimensional residues. Applications are given to implicit function theory, systems of nonlinear equations, computation of the multiplicity of a zero of a mapping, and computation of combinatorial sums in closed form. Certain applications in multidimensional complex analysis are considered. The monograph is intended for specialists in theoretical and applied mathematics and theoretical physics, and for postgraduate and graduate students interested in multidimensional complex analysis or its applications.
These notes are based on lectures the author gave at the University of Bonn and the Erwin Schrodinger Institute in Vienna. The aim is to give a thorough introduction to the theory of Kahler manifolds with special emphasis on the differential geometric side of Kahler geometry. The exposition starts with a short discussion of complex manifolds and holomorphic vector bundles and a detailed account of the basic differential geometric properties of Kahler manifolds. The more advanced topics are the cohomology of Kahler manifolds, Calabi conjecture, Gromov's Kahler hyperbolic spaces, and the Kodaira embedding theorem. Some familiarity with global analysis and partial differential equations is assumed, in particular in the part on the Calabi conjecture. There are appendices on Chern-Weil theory, symmetric spaces, and $L^2$-cohomology.

Around 1970, an abrupt change occurred in the study of holomorphic functions of several complex variables. These notes are based on lectures given in the semmar on "Coding Theory and Algebraic Geometry" held at Schloss Mickeln, Diisseldorf, November 16-21, 1987. In 1982 Tsfasman, Vladut and Zink, using algebraic geometry and ideas of Goppa, constructed a seqeunce of codes that exceed the Gilbert-Varshamov bound. The result was considered sensational. Furthermore, it was surprising to see these unrelated areas of mathematics collaborating. The aim of this course is to give an introduction to coding theory and to sketch the ideas of algebraic geometry that led to the new result. The authors consider the problem of characterizing the exterior differential forms which are orthogonal to holomorphic functions (or forms) in a domain $D\subset {\mathbf C}^n$ with respect to integration over the boundary, and some related questions. They give a detailed account of the derivation of the Bochner-Martinelli-Koppelman integral representation of exterior differential forms, which was obtained in 1967 and has already found many important applications. They study the properties of $\overline \partial$-closed forms of type $(p, n - 1), 0\leq p\leq n - 1$, which turn out to be the duals (with respect to the orthogonality mentioned above) to holomorphic functions (or forms) in several complex variables, and resemble holomorphic functions of one complex variable in their properties.
