ICEMS 2019
Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education in Muslim Society (ICEMS) contain papers from researchers, academicians, teachers, school principals, government agencies, and consultants in various fields of education, social sciences, humanities, Arabic and English linguistics. There were 110 full papers submitted and after reviewed by at least two reviewers, 39 of them are successfully published in the proceedings. The articles were submitted and presented at the 5th ICEMS held by Faculty of Educational Sciences (FITK) supported by Center for Research and Community Service (LP2M) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The 5th ICEMS centers on the issue of creativity and innovation in teaching and learning, a crucial issue to be discussed to improve the teaching and learning quality which in turn ultimately raise the overall education quality. In the future, the subsequent proceeding would be able to consistently grow into one prestigious annual proceeding by publishing papers from varied different fields of study, particularly in education.

The Development of English Aspectual Systems
Laurel Brinton's important study of the development of English aspectual systems provides an exceptionally clear and systematic account of an area of syntax and semantics that continues to be the subject of both terminological and notional confusion. Not only has the study of aspect been confused, but the variety of aspectual markers in English has also been unduly neglected. In this book Dr Brinton convincingly demonstrates the need to make clear distinction between 'aspect' and 'aktionsart' and betwen the aspectual meaning of individual forms and the meanings that result from the combination of verbs, auxiliaries, particles, and adverbs, as well as nominal arguments within a sentence. This exceptionally clear account of two sets of aspectual forms points to the coherence and systematicity of aspectual marking in Modern English. The wide range of theoretical issues explored makes this a significant contribution to the synchronic study of aspect and to the diachronic study of language change. By way of a personal note, I can reveal to the reader that I was led to Sanskrit by an exposure to Indian philosophy while still a child. These early mystical interests gave way in the university to scholarly pursuits and, through reading the works of Franklin Edgerton, Louis Renou and Etienne Lamotte, I was introduced to the scientific study of the· past, to philology and the academic study of an ancient literature.
