Using the Building Regulations

Manual to the Building Regulations
This manual provides information on the Building Regulations and the system of building control in England and Wales. The Regulations govern the management of health and safety issues when new buildings are being constructed, or existing buildings are altered, extended or converted. They are also concerned with energy conservation, and with making buildings more accessible for people with disabilities. This manual explains what kinds of work the Regulations apply to, and describes the two systems of building control. It provides guidance on how to meet the requirements of the Regulations, and includes details of the courses of action available in the event of disagreement with a local authority or approved inspector. It also includes a brief summary of legislation applicable to building and site development. The Manual relates to the Building Regulations 2000, plus the latest editions of approved documents H, J, L1 and L2 which come into force in April 2002.
