We all went over to the sound, and there in the bushes was a young Indian brave. He was in pretty bad shape. The other Indians must have thought he had run off when the fighting started, or maybe they didn't care because he was so young, so they didn't bother looking for him. He was probably 10 or 11 years old, too young to be going on a raid like this.

"You ready to tell me what we're carrying?" "Why is it so important for you to know?" "Well first place, if it was nitroglycerin, then I would take another route. If it was whiskey I'd stop for a drink any time. Why is it you don't want to tell me?" "Alright, if you must know, it's dynamite." "Dynamite! Why in blazes didn't you tell me that when we started?" "If you had known would you have agreed to carry it?"

Charlie recorded this on a Reel to Reel Tape Recorder on Feb. 6, 1975, typed on a Typewriter by Judy Hulsey, Charlie's granddaughter in-law, wife of Charlie's grandson, J.C. Hulsey. An original copy was given to Charlie and a carbon copy has been in J.C.'s desk since then. We don't know if Charlie ever did anything with the copy he received, if he didn't, well, here it is. Probably too late for the ones who would understand how exciting Coon Hunting was for Charlie. Perhaps, today (PETA) People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals would not approve of the treatment of the animals Charlie and his pals hunted, but at that time, it was a sport that many enjoyed. I glanced at the other passengers, then back at her. "This your only bag?" She nodded. "You got something in there fit for riding?" She nodded again. "Put it on, you're going with me." She turned and went behind the stagecoach. One of the passengers, a plump elderly woman with a shrill voice and didn't seem to mind using it yelled, "You can't take her!" "She can stay if she wants to," I told her. She returned shortly wearing a man's outfit. It only accentuated her curves. I helped her into the saddle. "Move your foot so's I can get up behind you." I slid my boot into the stirrup and swung up behind her. The top of her head rested under my chin. I inhaled deeply. "It's been too long," I thought.

Ma said I came into the world squirming and screaming and I hadn't gotten much better as I had gotten older. She said I'd been a difficult birth. And that hadn't improved either. I was still difficult. ************************************* "Hello, Budge. You do remember me, don't you? I remember you and your good for nothing brother and I remember what you did to me." "So. What'cha gonna do 'bout it?" "This is what I'm gonna do." I pulled the pistol outa my pants and pulled the trigger. Budge grabbed his chest and tumbled back over the rail and into the hog pen.

The Pistol Preacher

"You can't shoot me, you're a Preacher." "I haven't always been a Preacher. You and I have unfinished business from before I became a Preacher." The Preacher spoke softly, "I'm not gonna kill you. In fact, I'm gonna forgive you for what you did to my wife and me. However, I do require that you walk over to the sheriff's office and turn yourself in." "I ain't going no place with you." said the man. The Preacher stood, waiting calmly with his hand hovering over his pistol. The man blinked his eyes, trying to remove the sweat trickling down his face. "I'll see you in hell!" yelled the man. His hand twitched and he went for his gun.
