Micro and nano-electro-mechanical system (M/NEMS) devices constitute key technological building blocks to enable increased additional functionalities within Integrated Circuits (ICs) in the More-Than-Moore era, as described in the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors. The CMOS ICs and M/NEMS dies can be combined in the same package (SiP), or integrated within a single chip (SoC). In the SoC approach the M/NEMS devices are monolithically integrated together with CMOS circuitry allowing the development of compact and low-cost CMOS-M/NEMS devices for multiple applications (physical sensors, chemical sensors, biosensors, actuators, energy actuators, filters, mechanical relays, and others). On-chip CMOS electronics integration can overcome limitations related to the extremely low-level signals in sub-micrometer and nanometer scale electromechanical transducers enabling novel breakthrough applications. This Special Issue aims to gather high quality research contributions dealing with MEMS and NEMS devices monolithically integrated with CMOS, independently of the final application and fabrication approach adopted (MEMS-first, interleaved MEMS, MEMS-last or others).]

Blockchain and Applications

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 1st International Congress on Blockchain and Applications 2020, BLOCKCHAIN’20, held in L’Aquila, Italy, in October 2020. Among the scientific community, blockchain and artificial intelligence are a promising combination that will transform the production and manufacturing industry, media, finance, insurance, e-government, etc. Nevertheless, there is no consensus with schemes or best practices that would specify how blockchain and artificial intelligence should be used together. The 21 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from over 40 submissions. They contain the latest advances on blockchain and artificial intelligence and on their application domains, exploring innovative ideas, guidelines, theories, models, technologies, and tools, and identifying critical issues and challenges that researchers and practitioners must deal with in future research.

  • Publisher: Springer

This handbook has been designed to provide a comprehensive and state-of-the art review and update of the major issues and challenges specific to fine needle aspiration (FNA) and small tissue core biopsies, which have emerged as primary modalities in establishing a definitive cancer diagnosis in the field of anatomic pathology, both in the U.S. and worldwide. Making an accurate diagnosis from a limited sample can be quite challenging yet crucial to patient care. The handbook, using the most current and evidence-based resources, will 1) emphasize a triple test (clinical, radiologic, and cytologic/histologic correlation); 2) stress the importance of cellblock preparation/small tissue core biops...

Improving Air Safety Through Organizational Learning

The key theme of this book is organizational learning and its consequences for the field of air safety. Air safety rates have been improving for a long time, demonstrating the effects of a good learning model at work. However, the pace of improvement has almost come to a standstill. Improving Air Safety through Organizational Learning explains this situation as being the consequence of a development model supported chiefly by information technology being introduced as an alternative to human operators, and offers a new development model, one that makes strong use of technology but at the same time questions every step and suggests possible ways to recover the lost learning capacity.

Worldwide, the population ageing is a reality. The concept of Active Ageing, adopted by the World Health Organization, aims to guarantee quality ageing and appears as a strategy to solve this demographic challenge. The technological solutions might have a key role in the promotion of human functioning and in the mitigation of disabilities, particularly those resulting from the natural ageing process. This perspective is evident in the development of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) solutions. In this context, it is relevant to know about the recent developments in AAL and discuss future trends and challenges in this area. One of the objectives of this book is to do a systematic literature revie...

An impressive collection of the latest cutting-edge work in the dynamic field of intellectual capital. Experts from around the world discuss the current state of affairs from a variety of perspectives, providing a cross-disciplinary view of the field. All contributors presented their research at the top global conference in this field - the World Congress on Intellectual Capital. The underlying theme of the book is to explain how an organization can identify, measure, manage, leverage and act upon its collective intelligence towards the pursuit of sustainable innovation. The book is divided into three main parts which first establish a foundation of literature, then examine various measurement approaches and finally conclude with a variety of applications. "This collection of papers from the conference is special for its seminal research, strategic visions, and thought-provoking discussions. Make sure this book has a place in your library!" Dr. Jac Fitz-enz, Founder and Chairman, Saratoga Institute
