"Jim's daughter Judy enhanced Jim's book One Mans War with many of his articles about his early life, his later years, and a few memories of her own. This became One Man's Life"--Front cover.
Research shows that James Bailey, born about 1730, came from Virginia, probably Westmoreland County, to North Carolina in the early to mid 1770's with at least 2 sons, William Fleming and Kennedy. It is believed that his wife was a sister to John and Peter Fleming, who married Bailey sisters, Mary and Martha, who were thought to be sisters to James Bailey. They migrated to Bute County which is now in Vance County, North Carolina. James William Fleming Bailey married Molley Sprunt on July 7, 1777 in Bute County. It is believed that his brother, Kennedy, married Ellender Short. There are probably Baileys from Bute descendants in every state, but it is known that they are in North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Michigan, Texas, Utah, Colorado, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oregon, California, and Minnesota.
