Prof. dr. Jan Teeuwisse aanvaardde op 17 juni 2013 de bijzondere leerstoel Geschiedenis, theorie en praktijk van de moderne beeldhouwkunst (vanwege het Sculptuur Instituut) door een oratie te houden met als titel: Nederland beeldhouwland. Dit verweerschrift betoogt dat 'de kunstgeschiedenis' ons heeft aangepraat dat Nederland geen beeldhouwland is. Teeuwisse toont het tegenovergestelde aan: Nederland staat vol met sculptuur, die het waard is om besproken, bekeken en onderzocht te worden.
Zhang Dali. Body and Soul
In de grote zaal van museum Beelden aan Zee zal deze zomer een groot overzicht te zien zijn van de karakteristieke werken van de Chinese performancekunstenaar, graffitikunstenaar en beeldhouwer Zhang Dali (Harbin, 1963). De beeldengroep van 18 beelden van naakte, gewone Chinezen, die in het fijnste marmer zijn uitgehakt, zijn voor het eerst in Europa te zien. In het midden van de zaal staat een grote, unieke installatie, gemaakt uit een wolk van steigermateriaal. Zhang Dali is een van China?s belangrijkste beeldhouwers, die nu voor het eerst in Europa een overzichtstentoonstelling krijgt. Zhang Dali is een belangrijke figuur in de Chinese kunstwereld. Adriaen de Vries 1556-1626
This elegant exhibition catalog includes sixty-six works of art by this virtuoso sculptor, plus accompanying essays. Born in The Hague, Adriaen de Vries worked with the official sculptor to the Medici dukes beginning in 1580s, and in 1601 he was appointed official court sculptor to Rudolf II in Prague, where he worked until his death. Some of his best-known works are illustrated and described in this comprehensive volume, including the Bust of Emperor Rudolph II, the fountain Mercury and Cupid, Psyche Born Aloft by Putti, Juggling Man and The Wrestlers.

"Featuring 70 works in various media--paintings, calligraphy, photographs, woodblock prints, video, and sculpture--that were created during the past three decades, Ink Art: Past as Present in Contemporary China will demonstrate how China's ancient pattern of seeking cultural renewal through the reinterpretation of past models remains a viable creative path. Although all of the artists have transformed their sources through new modes of expression, visitors will recognize thematic, aesthetic, or technical attributes in their creations that have meaningful links to China's artistic past. The exhibition will be organized thematically into four parts and will include such highlights as Xu Bing's dramatic Book from the Sky (ca. 1988), an installation that will fill an entire gallery; Family Tree (2000), a set of vivid photographs documenting a performance by Zhang Huan in which his facial features--and his identity--are obscured gradually by physiognomic texts that are inscribed directly onto his face; and Map of China (2006) by Ai Weiwei, which is constructed entirely of wood salvaged from demolished Qing dynasty temples." --

Krystyna Ziach
Krystyna Ziach is als beeldhouwster opgeleid aan de academies van Beeldende Kunst in Krakau en Enschede (1973-1982), maar 'bekeerde' zich op een gegeven moment tot de fotografie. Ook op dat gebied heeft ze naam gemaakt: foto's van haar hand zijn opgenomen in de collecties van o.a. het Centre Pompidou, ABN AMRO, Museum Kunst Palast Düsseldorf en het Rijksmuseum. Ziach heeft hiermee een brug geslagen tussen de twee disciplines. Haar opleiding tot beeldhouwer heeft zeker haar manier van kijken gevormd. Zelfs nadat ze zich ging toeleggen op fotografie, is zij altijd als beeldhouwer blijven kijken naar de werkelijkheid. Voortdurend speelt ze met optische illusies en symboliek. Belangrijk onderdeel van haar oeuvre zijn de zgn. 'fotosculpturen', waarin foto's beeldhouwwerken zijn geworden. Foto's zijn daarin gecombineerd met materialen als zand, zout en houtskool.
