A educação de surdos vem se modificando no decorrer do tempo histórico. É inegável a contribuição dos direitos legais no ensino destes, porém, os conhecimentos oriundos das especificidades dos surdos ainda são pouco difundidos no Brasil. Este trabalho focalizou os olhares referentes ao campo da Surdez, do Ensino de Biologia e da Linguagem. O objetivo principal foi investigar o processo de escolarização de um aluno surdo, com apropriação tardia de uma língua, desvendando caminhos indiretos no ensino da Biologia, apoiando-se nos pressupostos de Vygotsky (2000, 2008, 2011) e Bakhtin (2006) para refletir sobre a mediação e a dialogia nos processos de apropriação da linguagem e da constituição humana. Há um clamor urgente pelo cumprimento das políticas vigentes na educação de surdos, para que a comunidade escolar passe a enxergar o surdo pelo viés da diferença, não da deficiência, contribuindo na construção de uma comunidade surda rica linguisticamente.
