My Most Memorable Teacher

My Most Memorable Teacher presents stories of 100 outstanding Alberta teachers. These heartfelt tributes from former students range across time and space, from the province's early years to the dawn of the 21st century. Here are 100 educators who shaped the knowledge and character of individual students, and contributed to the dynamic development of our province. My Most Memorable Teacher is the centennial story project of the Faculty of Education at the University of Calgary, one of many activities built around the theme of "Celebrate Teachers: 1905-2005." With Hon. Peter Lougheed as honorary chair, a panel of judges, drawn from Alberta's literary, historical and educational communities, selected these stories from hundreds of inspiring submissions from former students. Launched in November 1905, the Calgary Normal School evolved over the years into today's Faculty of Education, University of Calgary, which continues to prepare quality teachers for the 21st century.

Vigée Le Brun

Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun (1755–1842) was one of the finest eighteenth-century french painters and among the most important women artists of all time. Celebrated for her expressive portraits of French royalty and aristocracy, and especially of her patron Marie Antoinette, Vigée Le Brun exemplified success and resourcefulness in an age when women were rarely allowed either. Because of her close association with the queen Vigée Le Brun was forced to flee France during the French Revolution. For twelve years she traveled throughout Europe, painting noble sitters in the courts of Naples, Russia, Austria, and Prussia. She returned to France in 1802, under the reign of Emperor Napoleon I...

This volume grew out of a symposium held at the University of Alberta in March 2021 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of official multiculturalism in Canada. Scholars gathered online during the Covid-19 pandemic to take stock and reflect on the extent and ways multiculturalism legislation and evolving policy has impacted education. Scholars used varied and contrasting approaches to educational theory to think about multiculturalism and its impacts, including terror management theory, the riddle scale, art theory and pentimenti, transitional justice, intraminority and interminority relations, the null curriculum, and ideas of cultural humility, hope, and cultural comfort, among others.
