The Gift
The Gift captures the Singapore segment of the curatorial project Collecting Entanglements and Embodied Histories. Focusing on ideas of inter-relation and exchange manifest in history, geography and identity, this catalogue features the works of 15 artists in an examination of how the act of giving is performed, remembered and entangles. Collecting Entanglements and Embodied Histories is a dialogue between the collections of Galeri Nasional Indonesia, MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and Singapore Art Museum, initiated by the Goethe-Institut. The exhibitions are curated by Anna-Catharina Gebbers, Grace Samboh, Gridthiya Gaweewong and June Yap.
Lonely Vectors
Lonely Vectors takes its cue from Singapore Art Museum’s new space at the Tanjong Pagar Distripark as a site of the global economy and its choreography of movements. However, its interests in global flows extend beyond the circulation of goods and commodities to consider the bodies and histories unmoored and set adrift by this world in motion. From the construction of special economic zones to patterns of migration, from seed distribution to peasant solidarity against mega-plantations, from the uneven flow of land and water to the cosmologies and worlds lost to us over time, Lonely Vectors points to the different ways we desire to connect with one another.
Olafur Eliasson
Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson is internationally renowned for installations that challenge the way we perceive and co-create our environments. Approaching issues such as our changing understanding of climate, time and space, Your curious journey is the first survey of Eliasson’s practice in Southeast Asia, which showcases a range of artworks that immerses audiences within a shared experience. This exhibition catalogue features full-colour documentation of the artworks, including large-scale installations and sculptures. The plates are complemented by a curatorial essay, newly commissioned texts, a conversation with the artist, as well as itinerant marginalia that illustrate the entanglements between his practice and artistic approaches.
Art in a Multipolar World
This monograph takes a look at how the increasing multipolarity of our world affects art. It is a diagnosis of the socio-political contexts that surround art and questions what the upheavals in geopolitics, economic and social policy mean for the field of art today. The text is divided into four sections. First, the phenomenon is conceptualized and theorized. This is followed by an in-depth examination of the interrelationships using documenta fifteen as a case study, an exhibition that can be seen as a crystallization point for current political shifts. This is followed by an in-depth reading of Chinese art policy, which oscillates between particularist and universalist claims, in order to arrive at the concluding section, which opens up a horizon of thought and experimentation that helps us to come to terms with the era of multipolarity.
Residues & Remixes
Expanding on ideas explored by the artworks in the exhibition, the SAM Contemporaries: Residues & Remixes publication contextualises the show’s curatorial approach and the featured artistic practices through documentation, field notes, scholarly essays, speculations and conversations of various forms (and formalities) between artists and curators. Contributors: Dr June Yap (Foreword), Dr Shanthini Pillai, artists Yeyoon Avis Ann, Anthony Chin, Priyageetha Dia, Fyerool Darma, Khairulddin Wahab and Moses Tan, with curators Joella Kiu, Ong Puay Khim, Shabbir Hussain Mustafa, Syaheedah Iskandar, Kenneth Tay and Teng Yen Hui.

A wide-ranging investigation of what speculation is, and what is at stake for artistic, curatorial, critical, and institutional practices in relating to their own speculative character.
