Manuscript letter book beginning shortly after Dr. John Cochran's appointment as Director General of the Medical Department of the Continental Army. Many of the letters concern practical matters, such as vacancies and appointments, supplies, and payments, and are written to various members of the Continental Congress and the Hospital and Medical Deparment. In addition to letters, Cochran documented statistics on the military hospitals and officers.
