Hematopoietic Stem Cells VII, Volume 1176

A fundamental property of hematopoetic stem cells is their capacity to self-renew, thus providing, in principle, a limitless source of daughter cells and with the same functional properties. This volume presents the most recent developments, and their clinical implications, in hematopoietic stem cell research. The field of hematopoietic stem cell biology is rapidly advancing and new ideas and concepts supported by new technologies provide new discoveries. Topics covered are genetic and epigenetic regulation of stem cells, stem cell plasticity, stem cell regulation and self-renewal, and embryonic stem cells as well as malignant stem cell biology. Hematopoietic Stem Cells VIII

This volume stems from the eighth international symposium and workshop entitled "Hematopoietic Stem Cells VIII" held hosted by the University of Tuebingen, Germany in the fall of 2011. The meeting was designed to bring ~30 leading scientists together to discuss the state-of-the-art in the field of hematopoietic stem cells. Topics reviewed in this volume include: differential requirements for Wnt and Notch signaling in hematopoietic versus thymic niches; hematopoietic stem cell expansion; TIM-3 as a therapeutic target for malignant stem cells in acute myelogenous leukemia; regulatory factors for hematopoietic stem cells; reprogramming factors; immune reconstitution and strategies for rebuildi...

In Search Of Our Roots briefly explains the circumstances that caused Anabaptist/Mennonites to migrate from Northern Europe to the Vistula Delta in the 16th century, and from there to Southern Russia. The focus of the story is twofold: (1) to follow the earliest known ancestors of John A and Agatha (Driedger) Dick from the Vistula Delta in present day Poland, to Russia, through the Revolution and then eventually their flight to Canada, (2) to look behind the scenes at why the Mennonites flourished so in Russia and the violent end to it all. The story is essentially about Schoenfeld, a district of large farms and estates, about life there in the Golden Years and the tragic end in 1917. Although the story line is about a particular family, many Mennonite families with roots in Schoenfeld will recognize their ancestors emerging as well. The book includes maps and the geographic coordinates of many estates. many side stories

  • Publisher: CRC Press

This book is based on a successful curriculum designed to elevate technical artists with no programming experience up to essential programming competency as quickly as possible. Instead of abstract, theoretical problems, the curriculum employs familiar applications encountered in real production environments to demonstrate each lesson. Written with artists in mind, this book introduces novice programmers to the advantageous world of Python programming with relevant and familiar examples. Any digital artists (not just technical artists) will find this book helpful in assisting with day-to-day production activities. Concentrating upon subjects relevant to the creation of computer graphic assets, this book introduces Python basics, functions, data types, object-oriented programming, exception handling, file processing, graphical user interface creation, PEP 8 standards, and regular expressions. Programming within the SideFX Houdini 3D animation software provides a familiar environment for artists to create and experiment with the covered Python topics.

Computational Fluid Dynamics

Computational Fluid Dynamics

This book is an outgrowth of a von Kannan Institute Lecture Series by the same title first presented in 1985 and repeated with modifications in succeeding years. The objective, then and now, was to present the subject of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to an audience unfamiliar with all but the most basic aspects of numerical techniques and to do so in such a way that the practical application ofCFD would become clear to everyone. Remarks from hundreds of persons who followed this course encouraged the editor and the authors to improve the content and organization year by year and eventually to produce the present volume. The book is divided into two parts. In the first part, John Anderso...
