The earliest known Wasson ancestor of John Robert Scmidt (1949- ) was James Wausoun (1551-1609) of Mauchlin, Ayrshire, Scotland. In the early 1600s the Wasson family emigrated from Scotland to County Antrim, Ireland. In the early 1770s the family immigrated to America where they settled first in New Hampshire and then in New York. Descendants later moved to Illinois and Iowa. Descendants live in Iowa and other parts of the United States.
John Robert Schmidt (1949- ) descends from Edward I through his daughter, Elizabeth, who married Humphry de Bohun. A descendant married Hugh Luttrell (1634-1428). Descendants married into the Brewster and Wasson families.
The Hovenden family originally from England. George Hovenden (1784-1860), the immigrant ancestor, lived in Borden, County Kent, England, and died in Trivoli Township, Peoria Co., Illinois. He was married to Mary Hephzibah Saxby (1790-1846) in 1812. They were parents of fourteen children. Most of these children also immigrated to America and settled in Illinois, Nebraska, Oregon and California. Ancestry is traced to England ca. 1362.
