Codex Alimentarius Commission Procedural Manual
The Procedural Manual of the Codex Alimentarius Commission helps national delegations and international organizations attending as observers, participate effectively in the work of the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme. It sets out the basic Rules of Procedure, procedures for the elaboration of Codex standards and related texts, and basic definitions and guidelines for the operation of Codex committees. It also gives the membership of the Codex Alimentarius Commission. This newly designed 28th edition with the first change in layout since the 1960s, amends the section on commodity standards dealing with non-retail containers; introduces new text on Criteria and procedural guidelines for Codex committees and ad hoc intergovernmental task forces working by correspondence, and there is a new annex concerning the Approach for the extrapolation of maximum residue limits of veterinary drugs to one or more species to the risk analysis principles applied by the Committee on residues of veterinary drugs in foods.
Understanding the Codex Alimentarius
The Codex Alimentarius is a collection of international food standards that cover all the main foods, whether processed, semi-processed or raw. In addition, materials used in the further processing of food products are included to the extent necessary for achieving the principal objectives of the code - protecting the health of consumers and facilitating fair practices in the food trade. The Codex Alimentarius is an important international reference point in matters concerning food quality. Its creation, moreover, has generated food-related scientific research and greatly increased the world community's awareness of the vital issues of - food quality, safety and public health. This booklet is the third edition of a title first published in 1999, with the aim of fostering a wider understanding of the evolving food code and of the activities of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
Codex Alimentarius
The Codex Alimentarius presents adopted international food standards in a uniform manner. The full set, when complete, will comprise 14 volumes. Of these, nine will present standards and codes of practices compiled on a commodity-by-commodity basis, and two will deal with residues of pesticides and veterinary drugs in foods. Other volumes will contain information on acceptances of standards, as well as methods of analysis and sampling. Print editions are available in English, French, and Spanish. The title is also available as a tri-lingual CD-ROM.
