Thisvolumecontainsaselectionofpapersfromthe5thInternationalConference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT 2004) held in Pittsburgh, USA, August 18-20, 2004. Indeed, as we write this preface, in the Summer of 2005, we note that we are about one month away from the tenth anniversary of the very?rst PATAT conference in Edinburgh. Since those very early days, the conference series has gone from strength to strength and this volume represents the latest in a series of?ve rigorously refereed volumes which showcase a broad spectrum of ground-breaking timetabling research across a very wide range of timetabling problems and applications. Timetabling is an area that unites a nu...
Scientific workflows have emerged as a key technology that assists scientists with the design, management, execution, sharing and reuse of in silico experiments. Workflow management systems simplify the management of scientific workflows by providing graphical interfaces for their development, monitoring and analysis. Nowadays, e-Science combines such workflow management systems with large-scale data and computing resources into complex research infrastructures. For instance, e-Science allows the conveyance of best practice research in collaborations by providing workflow repositories, which facilitate the sharing and reuse of scientific workflows. However, scientists are still faced with di...
Things change rapidly in the field of engineering, and awareness of innovation in production techniques is essential for those working in the field if they are to utilise the best and most appropriate solutions available. This book presents the proceedings of ICAPIE-22, the 7th International Conference on Advanced Production and Industrial Engineering, held on 11 and 12 June 2022 in Delhi, India. The aim of the conference was to explore new windows for discoveries in design, materials and manufacturing, which have an important role in all fields of scientific growth, and to provide an arena for the showcasing of advancements and research endeavours from around the world. The 102 peer-reviewed and revised papers in this book include a large number of technical papers with rich content, describing ground-breaking research from various institutes. Covering a wide range of topics and promoting the contribution of production and industrial engineering and technology for a sustainable future, the book will be of interest to all those working in production and industrial engineering.
This volume contains articles accepted for presentation during The Intel ligent Information Processing and Web Mining Conference IIS:IIPWM'04 which was held in Zakopane, Poland, on May 17-20, 2004. This conference is a continuation of a series of 13 successful symposia and conferrences on Intel ligent Information Systems, organized by the Institute of Computer Science of Polish Academy of Sciences, devoted to new trends in (broadly understood) Artificial Intelligence. The idea of organizing such meetings dates back to 1992. Our main in tention guided the first, rather small-audience, workshop in the series was to resume the results gained in Polish scientific centers as well as contrast them...
The book covers the theory and application of soft computing techniques namely; neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing and complex systems. The book is a collection of selected, edited papers presented at the 4th conference RACS Recent Advances in Soft Computing held in Nottingham, December 2002. It provides the latest developments in applications of soft computing techniques as well as advances in theoretical aspects of soft computing.
This book is divided in the three main areas where Professor Antonina Starita was most active in the last period of her research activity: clustering and learning applications, biomedical applications, and motor control and evaluation. The part on clustering and learning applications opens with a contribution concerning the clustering of short-text corpora by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The second contribution in this part investigates the use of Neural Networks (NN), and specifically of Recurrent NN, to interpret brain images obtained by functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). The first part of the book is closed by a contribution on the System for Paleographic Inspections (SPI) software suite.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Meeting on Computational Intelligence Methods for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, CIBB 2012, held in Houston, TX, USA during in July 2012. The 16 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 23 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on relativistic heavy ions and DNA damage; image segmentation; proteomics; RNA and DNA sequence analysis; RNA, DNA, and SNP microarrays; semi-supervised/unsupervised cluster analysis.
Included in this proceedings is a selection of peer-reviewed scholarly papers by Saudi postgraduate researchers who presented their work at a student conference held in London at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre from January 31 to February 1, 2015. The volume covers topics from fields in the humanities, social sciences and natural and applied sciences. Appealing to both specialists and non-specialists, the topics addressed by the students reflect advances in knowledge, research trends, and scholarly debates across the academic spectrum. This cross-disciplinary conference was organised by the Scientific Society for Saudi Students in the UK with support from the Saudi Arabian Cultural B...
Arti?cial immune systems (AIS) is a diverse and maturing area of research that bridges the disciplines of immunology and computation. The original research impetus in AIS had a clear focus on applying immunological principles to c- putationalproblemsinpracticaldomainssuchascomputersecurity, datamining and optimization. As the ?eld has matured, it has diversi?ed such that we now see a growing interest in formalizing the theoretical properties of earlier - proaches, elaborating underlying relationships between applied computational models and those from theoretical immunology, as well a return to the roots of the domain in which the methods of computer science are being applied to - munological...
