Governance of Metropolitan Areas for Delivery of Public Services in Latin America: the Cases of Bogota, Lima and Mexico City
Abstract: One of the key issues at metropolitan level is the provision of public services and this paper highlights the importance of understanding the governance of public services in the context of increasing urbanization and decentralization. This paper provides a comparative analysis on metropolitan governance in Latin America by analysing specific case studies. The objective is to identify how the governance setting in metropolitan areas shapes the process anthe results of providing public services to wider population. We examine metropolitan governance by employing a 3x3x3 model as a framework for addressing key issues about urban services delivery. Bogota, Lima and Mexico City are the metropolitan areas selected. Secondly, we focus on three sectors: transport, solid waste collection and water. Finally, the analysis focuses in three aspects of governance: coordination, financial sustainability and coverage and quality. The data collection process involved field research in Bogota, Lima
Cities in the 21st Century
In recent years and decades, we observe the reality of a new urban world: the percentage of the world population living in urban areas has increased from around 30 in 1950 to around 54 in 2015, and is expected to reach 66 by 2050. However, in most cases the focus of research has been on the dynamics of the developed world. By contrast, our understanding of regional and urban dynamics in the developing world remains very limited. Developing countries will by 2030 host more than 85% of the world population, and more than 90% of the new urban residents of the world will live in cities in the developing world according to the United Nations. This special issue on "Cities in the 21st century: A view from the developing world" consists of an introductory editorial and four papers. They all study aspects of the reality of developing countries in the 21st century, always from a spatial perspective. Each paper focuses on a different topic, but they nicely complement each other. While three papers focus on Latin America and the fourth one on the reality of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, they all have broader implications for the developing world in general.

Metropolitan Governance in Latin America
This book represents a powerful analysis of the challenges of metropolitan governance in all its messiness and complexity. It examines Latin American metropolitan governance by focusing on the issue of public service provision and comparatively examining five of the largest and most complex urban agglomerations in the region: Buenos Aires, Bogota, Lima, Mexico City and Santiago. Los festivales en la pandemia: voces para la reconstrucción del entramado escénico iberoamericano
El encuentro de Festivales Iberoamericanos de Artes Escénicas (EFíbero) nació como un proyecto especial en el seno del Programa Iberescena, único espacio de cooperación intergubernamental destinado al desarrollo del teatro, la danza y el circo en la región cultural iberoamericana. Desde su creación en 2006 este programa ha sido un espacio de enorme potencial para darle un impulso destacado al sector, como lo han sido también los organismos destinados al impulso específico de la actividad teatral en diversos países de la región. No solo Argentina cuenta con un Instituto dedicado específicamente al fomento de la actividad teatral: varios países latinoamericanos han creado también sus propios organismos estatales con la misma dirección. Sin embargo, la falta de evaluación de las políticas implementadas ha sido uno de los grandes déficits de estos ejemplos de gestión pública.

Especialización productiva de Tunja con miras a la promoción de la inversión
En este libro se aplica una metodología mixta para identificar las actividades económicas que podrían fomentarse como especialización o vocación productiva del Municipio de Tunja y a partir de ellas, establecer las acciones y los proyectos que permitirán lograr objetivos de atracción de inversión, inserción en el contexto internacional, asociatividad en cadena o clústeres y generar el empleo que requiere el territorio. En un primer capítulo se analizan algunos antecedentes; en el segundo se trabajan los datos de los últimos años para identificar las actividades eficientes en indicadores de productividad, competitividad y bienestar; el tercer capítulo habla de las expectativas de empresarios tunjanos con respecto a la inversión y potencial especialización del municipio; la cuarta parte define las actividades estratégicas recomendadas para promover la especialización productiva, así como las iniciativas y recomendaciones para desarrollarlas.
Metropolitan Economic Development
Metropolitan areas are home to a significant proportion of the world’s population and its economic output. Taking Mexico as a case study and weaving in comparisons from Latin America and developed countries, this book explores current trends and policy issues around urbanisation, metropolisation, economic development and city-region governance. Despite their fundamental economic relevance, the analysis and monitoring of metropolitan economies in Mexico and other countries in the Global South under a comparative perspective are relatively scarce. This volume contains empirical analysis based on comparative perspectives with relation to international experiences. It will be of interest to advanced students, researchers and policymakers in urban policy, urban economics, regional studies, economic geography and Latin American studies.
The Palgrave Handbook of Diplomatic Reform and Innovation
In this handbook, a group of 40 scholars and practitioners from some 30 countries takes a critical look at the contemporary practice of diplomacy. Many assume diplomacy evolves naturally, and that state- and non-state actors are powerless to make significant changes. But Diplomacy’s methods, its key institutions and conventions were agreed more than six decades ago. None take account of the opportunities and vulnerabilities presented by the Internet. Diplomacy is now a neglected global issue.The COVID pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine have highlighted some of the problems of diplomatic dysfunction.
