[ANGLÈS] Bluetooth Low Energy is the new specification of Bluetooth available for all new smartphones. It is a new low power consumption technology aimed to transmit small amount of data. In addition to be able to transmit data, BLE can be used to locate things. iBeacon protocol, which uses BLE, is aimed at that objective with special attention in proximity location with BLE beacons. The objective of this project was to implement an indoor positioning system based on Bluetooth Low Energy beacons and the iBeacon protocol. This indoor positioning system uses trilateration methods to estimate the position based on distances estimated through modelling the indoor path loss. Several existing techniques and methods are studied and analysed in this project, the ones that presented best results have been implemented in the system. Through an evaluation of the system and different calibration techniques, an accuracy of 1̃1.5 meters has been obtained.
[ANGLÈS] Mobile communications have had an strong growth in our society in the recent years and it keeps increasing. Therefore, it is important to dispose of a network able to provide enough capacity and a minimal quality performance. There are laws to regulate the minimal conditions of the offered quality of service but, normally, the reports to prove these minimal conditions are made by the operators themselves. Thus, might make these measures not much reliable especially when some users do not perceive the quality that operators claim to offer. The present work studies the protocols implemented by several operators and tries to provide an interactive evaluation system where the customer ...
Performance evaluation, reliability, and performability are key factors in the development and improvement of computer systems and computer networks. This volume contains the 25 accepted and invited papers presented at the 7th International Conference on Modelling Techniques and Tools for Computer Performance Evaluation. The papers focus on new techniques and the extension of existing techniques for performance and reliability analysis. Tools to support performance and reliability modelling and measurement in all kinds of applications and environments are presented, and the practicability and generality of the approaches are emphasized. The volume summarizes the state of the art and points out future demands and challenges, and will interest both scientists and practitioners.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Thyrrhenian International Workshop on Digital Communication, IWDC 2001, held in Taormina, Italy in September 2001. The 46 revised full papers presented are a mix of invited papers and selected submitted papers and reflect the state of the art in multiservice IP network research and development. The book offers topical sections on WDM technologies for the next generation Internet, mobile and wireless Internet access, QoS in the next generation Internet, multicast and routing in IP networks, mulitmedia services over the Internet, performance of Internet protocols, dynamic service management, and source encoding and Internet applications.
