Kids who Kill

"We taught our girls to pray every day. What we didn't know was that the devil himself had moved in right across the street." Maddie Clifton is dead. Her killer is a young teenage neighbor, Joshua Phillips, who beats her with a baseball bat and stabs her multiple times. He then stuffs her body under his waterbed that he sleeps on for a week. Challenging a long-standing trend that sees the Renaissance as the end of communal identity and constitutive group affiliation, author Joshua Phillips explores the perseverance of such affiliation throughout Tudor culture. Focusing on prose fiction from Malory's Morte Darthur through the works of Sir Philip Sidney and Thomas Nashe, this study explores the concept of collective agency and the extensive impact it had on English Renaissance culture. In contrast to studies devoted to the myth of early modern individuation, English Fictions of Communal Identity, 1485-1603 pays special attention to primary communities-monastic orders, printing house concerns, literary circles, and neighborhoods-that continued to generate a collective sense of identity. Ultimately, Phillips offers a new way of theorizing the relation between collaboration and identity. In terms of literary history, this study elucidates a significant aspect of novelistic discourse, even as it accounts for the institutional disregard of often brilliant works of early modern fiction.

Generally naive about their world, children are thought to be nearly incapable of serious wrongdoing and are rarely suspects in violent crimes. Yet, from the 1960s to the mid-90s, the U.S. saw several waves of juvenile murders that caused widespread public concern. The phenomenon created longstanding debates about the sources or causes of a child killer's mindset. Some blame external triggers like video games, rock music or pornography, while others argue the causes are deeper issues, such as an underdeveloped brain experiencing abuse and neglect. The quest to uncover the causes of these crimes is ongoing, and how the American justice system should handle these young killers remains a controversy. This book assesses ten murder cases in modern American criminal history, examining the minds of the children who perpetrated them. Chapters compile decades of research on the psychology of child murderers in hopes of creating a more coherent understanding of why kids kill.

This is a well-written novel with many disputes, and settlements between private capital and the public purse, with somewhat insensitive characters. The story gives unpleasant insights into Washington D.C. and New York and stays true to its setting throughout. The Fashionable Adventures of Joshua Craig is one of the finest works of American novelist and journalist David Graham Phillips. Phillips is known for including all he has seen in his works, from lower to higher levels of society and different walks of life. Following the life of Joshua Craig, he goes from loving women to fighting men to being a gentleman.
