Com esmero, tornou-se negociante e acumulou uma enorme reserva financeira, que lhe permitiu comprar casas e fazendas. Pouco tempo depois, constituiu família e obteve respaldo político, além de conquistar o respeito e admiração das pessoas. Visionário, muito contribuiu para o progresso do até então distrito de Bom Jardim do Turvo, atual cidade de Bom Jardim de Minas. Mesmo após 85 anos de sua morte, foi homenageado pela Câmara Municipal, que concedeu o título póstumo de honra ao mérito, bem como uma praça, localizada no centro histórico, com o nome de Coronel Vicente Mauro, mantendo viva sua memória para as futuras gerações.
