An explosive increase in the knowledge of the effects of chemical and physical agents on biological systems has led to an increased understanding of normal cellular functions and the consequences of their perturbations. The 14-volume Second Edition of Comprehensive Toxicology has been revised and updated to reflect new advances in toxicology research, including content by some of the leading researchers in the field. It remains the premier resource for toxicologists in academia, medicine, and corporations. Comprehensive Toxicology Second Edition provides a unique organ-systems structure that allows the user to explore the toxic effects of various substances on each human system, aiding in providing diagnoses and proving essential in situations where the toxic substance is unknown but its effects on a system are obvious. Comprehensive Toxicology Second Edition is the most complete and valuable toxicology work available to researchers today. Contents updated and revised to reflect developments in toxicology research Organized with a unique organ-system approach Features full color throughout Available electronically on sciencedirect.com, as well as in a limited-edition print version

"This toxicological profile for perfluoroalkyls was prepared consistent with guidelines developed by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the preparation of toxicological profiles. The original guidelines were published in the Federal Register on April 17, 1987. While Perfluoroalkyls are not found on the ATSDR list of Priority Hazardous Substances, ATSDR has determined that a profile for these substances was necessary because data indicate that some perfluoroalkyls are found in the blood of the U.S. general population and in the environment. The agency also determined that it was important to characterize the current available information regarding the health effects from exposure in order to support and inform public health responses and activities by ATSDR and other." -- p. v

Advances in Conjugated Linoleic Acid Research

Advances in Conjugated Linoleic Acid Research, Volume 2 is the second book in a series devoted entirely to conjugated linoleic acid. This book has updated information on the analysis, biochemistry and applications of conjugated fatty acids in an attempt to make Volume 2, in conjunction with Volume 1 (published in 1999), the most comprehensive, up-to-date sources of CLA-related information available today. Both scientific and commercial views are presented, with the same data sometimes interpreted differently.

Japan will recover. When its economic achievements once again earn the world's admiration, its per capita GDP will grow faster, and its Information Technology revolution will prove even greater, than in the United States. As Japan brings its inefficient industries up to world benchmarks, sustained annual growth of 3 percent, perhaps more, will be within reach. This is the confident forecast that begins Japanese Phoenix: The Long Road to Economic Revival by the author of Japan: The System That Soured, which several years ago accurately predicted Japan's current travails at a time when others were prematurely pronouncing full recovery. Katz warns, however, that there is bad news to go with the...
