Curated by Juan Antonio Alvarez Reyes, the event is designed as a global project including the exhibition itself, a video programme, a variety of performances and concerts, and a series of films, all of which aim to showcase the work of approximately 30 creators (visual artists, film directors and musicians) who use video games as a primary material to demonstrate how it is just as natural to modify games as play with them. The exhibition will comprise installations, mono-channel videos and interactive video games, which will enable viewers to gain an insight into a selection of these works based on the concepts of simulation, violence and risk. All themes that form part of the essence of this genre, here they are examined in relation to different theories and from the varying perspectives of the participating artists.

In the framework of the exhibition 'Rogelio López Cuenca. Keep Reading, Giving Rise', the artist's first retrospective, his main preoccupations are surveyed through five core themes: Collaborations, Poetic Expansion, City and Avant-garde, New World Order and Artistic Expansion. The show concludes with the installation Islas (Islands), produced exclusively for the exhibition, whereby López Cuenca sets forth a critical re-reading of texts and historical etchings related to the 'discovery' of America. The work of Catalan artist Eullia Valldosera links to the human body and the representation through the conceptual pieces. Her installations formed by objects, cinematic devices, and projected images in the space surround the spectator and produce nearly a magical effect. The retrospective, which the Reina Sofia Museum dedicates to the artist, allows to look over and get known her initial works, barely shown previously, that include drawings, photography o single-channel videos. Besides, Valldosera will present the work Alma Mater, a monumental multichannel installation created especially for this show.
The sources in this volume focus on Great Britain’s moral, financial, and diplomatic interventions and ambitions in Latin America. It begins during the wars of independence spanning 1810-1825, when Foreign Secretary George Canning prematurely declared, "Spanish America is free; and if we do not mismanage our affairs sadly, she is English." The independence movements of the former Spanish and Portuguese colonies, as well as their ancient past, inspired Romantic writers such as Anna Letitia Barbauld and spurred British military support and political debate, as attested by mercenary Richard Vowell’s Campaigns and Cruises in Venezuela and James Mill's "Emancipation of Spanish America."
