Famous mystery novelist Walker Redgrave is dead, an apparent suicide in a dingy motel room in a roughneck fishing village on the Panhandle coast of Florida. Atlanta private detective—and former college professor—Bennett Cole is reading the jolting headlines when Redgrave’s widow walks into his office. Redgrave could not have taken his own life, she says. He had plans, too much to live for. So Cole takes his first big case after more than nine years of peeping through windows and following errant spouses during late-night trysts. From the news accounts, it appears clear-cut that the novelist took his own life. The room was locked, the gun still in his cold hand. But this is no open-and-shut case, and, as Cole comes to realize, there is a lot more to Redgrave’s “suicide” than is contained in the police reports. Cole’s search for the truth leads him deep into the Florida backwoods, to places rarely touched by the law, and where men will kill to hid any number of secrets.

Some Must Stay

The Appalachias of the 1930's are as beautiful as they are remote, and the fierce people who live there are as hard and as untamable as the land they inhabit. Their society is a closed one, made strong, but uncompromising, by their geographic isolation and immutable poverty, and tempered only slightly by their fervent faith in God, their loyalty to family, and their abiding love of their land. C.E. Burns' provocative novel chronicles the struggles of this poor mountain society, as it struggles to deal with the explosive issues of lust, greed, revenge, "unnatural passion", and illicit love. Some Must Stay is the powerful story of Appalachian life and its hardships as seen through the eyes of ...

This volume argues that districts are important as a lever for change given the limited success of school-by-school efforts. Policies that focus on skill development, recognize and support performance, create opportunities for collaboration, build leader capacity, and create networks of knowledge sharing hold great potential for improving districts but it will require a paradigm shift in the way we view our public school system and those who work within it - away from blame and toward complext systems change.

Operation Rhine Maiden

After a near-suicide mission to the Swartfjord, which claimed many lives, morale among the survivors of 633 Squadron was at its lowest ebb. Unbearable tension and problems with replacement recruits were tearing the squadron apart... The new Commander, Ian Moore — young, brilliant and aggressive — knew that the only thing that would pull it together was the challenge of another dangerous mission... The Germans were developing “Rhine Maiden,” a new antiaircraft rocket which posed a deadly threat to the Allies’ invasion plans.
