Solidarity in the European Union
This volume approaches the current crisis of solidarity in the European Union from a multidisciplinary perspective. The contributions explore the concept of solidarity, its role in the European integration process, and analyze the risks entailed by a lack of solidarity. Experts from various academic fields, such as political science, law, sociology, and philosophy, shed new light on contemporary challenges such as the migrant and refugee crisis, the Eurozone crisis, nationalist and separatist movements, and Brexit. Finally, they also discuss different solutions for the most pressing problems in EU politics. The book has two main aims: Firstly, to show that solidarity is a key element in solving the EU’s contemporary problems; and secondly, to reveal how the crisis of solidarity has become a crucial test for the integration project, as the nature of the crisis goes beyond the well-known shortcomings in the EU’s structure and problem-solving capacities.
The Depiction of Poland and Poles in The Daily Telegraph, 2007-2010
A country’s distinct image is directly related to its recognisability in the international arena and, as a result, greater potential for influencing other countries and global affairs more effectively. In fact, a country’s image exerts an effect not only on the perception of this country abroad, but also on attitudes to whatever concerns the country—its products, services and places, as well as its residents. This book explores the image of Poland as constituted by articles published in the online version of The Daily Telegraph from 2007 to 2010. Therefore, this investigation answers the questions of how one of the most influential British newspapers was depicting a certain section of the Polish reality and, consequently, of the elements that were usually foregrounded and of the way in which they were presented to the readers. Firmly grounded in the context of an outline of PR measures adopted by the Polish administration in the years 2007-2010, the study also indicates the extent to which the image of Poland as portrayed in the online version of the British newspaper reflected the Polish government’s PR objectives of that time.

Racial Discrimination
There is an institutionalized dilemma in Europe that counteracts social cohesion and stability. It is a result of the collision and incompatibility between declarations of universal values (such as human rights and democracy) and institutionalized actions which exclude and discriminate against Europeans of immigrant background and against ethnic minorities. This book analyzes the institutional patterns and politics of ‘racial’ discrimination in modern-day Europe. Based on a research project that has been carried out under the leadership of the author in eight European countries, Racial Discrimination seeks the answers to some of the key questions posed by the latest developments in European political and public spheres concerning immigration and the increase in xenophobic sentiments and parties. Democratic Citizenship and the Free Movement of People
