Representations of Finite-Dimensional Algebras

From the reviews: "... [Gabriel and Roiter] are pioneers in this subject and they have included proofs for statements which in their opinions are elementary, those which will help further understanding and those which are scarcely available elsewhere. They attempt to take us up to the point where we can find our way in the original literature. ..." --The Mathematical Gazette

Teach Us to Pray

Teach Us to Pray

In almost 500 years of evangelical praying, there has never been a book like this. "Teach Us to Pray" is in effect four books in one. It begins with a detailed analysis of the biblical theology of prayer, surveying each part of the Scriptures in turn. Next comes an investigation of prayer and spirituality within Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, historic Christianity (Puritanism) and a different Christian contemporary tradition (Roman Catholicism). In addition, expert commentators offer "Lessons in Prayer from the Worldwide Church," featuring Korea, China, Latin America and Africa. Finally a group of Christian leaders write about prayer in their individual experience, adding a personal dimension to this comprehensive book. This is a full library on the subject of prayer, conserving the best insights of the past and breaking new ground with penetrating original thinking.

Class Field Theory

Global class field theory is a major achievement of algebraic number theory based on the functorial properties of the reciprocity map and the existence theorem. This book explores the consequences and the practical use of these results in detailed studies and illustrations of classical subjects. In the corrected second printing 2005, the author improves many details all through the book.

The special issue contains contributions presented at the international workshop Seismic waves in laterally inhomogeneous media IV, which was held at the Castle of Trest, Czech Republic, May 22-27, 1995. The workshop, which was attended by about 100 seismologists from more than 10 countries, was devoted mainly to the current state of theoretical and computational means of study of seismic wave propagation in complex structures. The special issue can be of interest for theoretical, global and explorational seismologists. The first part contains papers dealing with the study and the use of various methods of solving forward and inverse problems in complicated structures. Among other methods, discrete-wave number method, the finite-difference method, the edge-wave supperposition method and the ray method are studied and used. Most papers contained in the second part are related to the ray method. The most important topics are two-point ray tracing, grid calculations of travel times and amplitudes and seismic wave propagation in anisotropic media.

This book highlights the latest advances in engineering mathematics with a main focus on the mathematical models, structures, concepts, problems and computational methods and algorithms most relevant for applications in modern technologies and engineering. In particular, it features mathematical methods and models of applied analysis, probability theory, differential equations, tensor analysis and computational modelling used in applications to important problems concerning electromagnetics, antenna technologies, fluid dynamics, material and continuum physics and financial engineering. The individual chapters cover both theory and applications, and include a wealth of figures, schemes, algor...
