This volume is the fourth, and last, volume in the series entitled Educating About Social Issues in the 20th and 21st Centuries: An Annotated Bibliography. Volumes I and Volume 2 focused on (1) the lives and work of notable scholars dedicated to addressing why and how social issues should become an integral component of the public school curriculum, and (2) various topics/approaches vis-à-vis addressing social issues in the classroom. Volume 3 addressed approaches to incorporating social issues into the extant curricula that were not addressed in the first two volumes. This volume, Volume Four, focuses solely on critical pedagogy: both the lives and work of major critical pedagogues and the different strains of critical pedagogy the latter pursued (e.g., critical theory in education, critical feminism in education, critical race theory).

"Tony Monchinski has accomplished an important task here. He has drawn interesting parallels between critical pedagogy and feminist ethics of care. In doing so, he expands greatly how creative teachers can truly ̀care' about their students and social justice at once."--Joan C. Tronto, Professor of Political Science, University of Minnesota --Book Jacket.

GKS Theory and Practice

GKS Theory and Practice

Eurographics, the European Association for Computer Graphics, has always been an important forum for discussions and presentation of results concerning the first ISO Graphical Standard, GKS (the Graphical Kernel System) and later of its three-dimensional extension, GKS-3D. This book is a collection of those articles which have appeared within the framework of Eurographics in the past 5 years, and which still contain, even after several years, valid and interesting results concerning the problems arising in connection with GKS. Some of these papers help the reader to gain a deeper understanding of the standard; others deal with general implementation problems, and finally there are some presentations of specific algorithms usable also for a GKS or GKS-3D implementation. The book may be of a particular interest to those specialists who intend to implement a GKS package or some similar graphics subsystem and who can therefore make direct use of the experiences reflected in this collection. The book should also be a valuable supplement in university courses concerned with teaching the principles of implementing device-independent computer graphics.

Subject To Fiction

Drawing on the life histories of three teachers, this book explores their narrative strategies to author themselves as active agents within and against the essentializing discourses of teaching. The complex and contradictory ways in which these women construct themselves as subjects, while simultaneously disrupting the notion of a unitary subject, provide new ways to think about subjectivity, resistance, power and agency.
