Jon Peter was the last child to learn to swim and he just didn't know how to get started. Early one morning he went down to the pier before anyone got up and thought about his problem. Then with a splash and a CRUMP! something big and green landed on the pier beside him. It looked like a huge lizard, but friendly! This was Bonifacius the Green, the only creature of his kind (except Mrs. Violet Bonafacius and their naughty son, Bonnie). With Bonifacius' help, Jon Peter quickly learned to swim. Then he learned to trust Britta, the girl who lived next door. He and Britta find the Bonifacius family the best friends in the world.
