Initiating Learning
Learning processes are never at hand or evident. How we learn something is for the most part not visible for us and for others. Primarily, learning is carried out by implicit and unspoken attitudes and mindsets, as it is stimulated by more or less ungraspable former experiences. Furthermore, it is influenced by opaque actual happenings such as subtexts of a spoken text, by forms of bodily communication and interaction and by the material conditions of learning processes and their limitations. Thus, learning cannot be reduced to its visible side such as its tasks, to the conscious motives and to forms of controlling it. When looking at learning only as an explicit process, its taciturnity and, by this, the real challenges of educating, teaching and learning get out of sight. Therefore, the endeavor to initiate learning cannot but deal with its explicit as well with its tacit aspects.
The Crisis of Representation
The term “Crisis of Representation” rose to fame through Michel Foucault. The crisis, in the context of this issue, has not only a political and economic dimension, but a cultural, aesthetic and religious one as well. Thus, a serious inquiry into this complex and multidimensional phenomenon requires an interdisciplinary approach. The issue targets the phenomena at hand through 15 contributions – all with unique and innovative approaches to the topic. One common aim that holds the issue together is the analysis of the nature of the crisis, which helps to find suitable theoretical frameworks. On the other hand, the term itself functions as a tool that enables the analysis of specific societal developments. Contributing authors brought with them expertise from their respective fields including philosophy, political sciences, theology, Islamic studies and religious studies. This allowed for a cross-disciplinary approach on the phenomenon with special foci on politics, religions, societies and finance, as well as theoretical developments on current philosophical and post-colonial discourses.
State Feminism, Women's Movements, and Job Training
Drawing from the work of internationally renowned scholars from the Research Network on Gender, Politics and the State (RNGS), this study offers in-depth analysis of the relationship between state feminism, women's movements and public policy and places them within a comparative theoretical framework. Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Canada, and the U.S. are all discussed individually.

Kindergärten, Schulen und Hochschulen
Wohin geht es in unseren Schulen und Kindergärten? Die Beiträge des Forschungsbandes stellen sich aktuellen Aufgaben in der Elementar- und Grundschulpädagogik. Primarstufe - Zukunft gestalten
Die Zukunft der Grundschule steht vor großen Veränderungen. Markante gesellschaftspolitische und pädagogische Entwicklungen (Inklusion, Transition, Standardisierung, neue Lernkulturen, Ganztagsschule, Pädagogenbildung NEU etc.) werden ihr ein neues Profil geben. Die Schule insgesamt kann die Herausforderungen von heute und morgen jedoch nicht mit der Organisationsstruktur von gestern lösen. Der bundesweite Grundschulkongress 2014 hat den Versuch unternommen, zukunftsträchtige Themen der Grundschulpädagogik und -didaktik zu diskutieren.
