Plant Therapy

Plant Therapy showcases the theory behind the recent surge in the ‘self-care’ approach to living with plants, no matter what your environment. We all know that being in or surrounded by nature is good for our health, but few of us take the time to understand why. As urbanization swallows up ecosystems, and humans move away from the environments they’ve adapted to, it has never been more important to understand the relationship between plants and people. Broken down into five chapters: The Human-Nature Relationship, Plants and Health, Plants and People, Living with Plants and an informative Plant Directory, the book first explains how we have come to exist in an environment that is at o...

A military outpost on an alien world becomes enmeshed in a bizarre and terrifying ecosystem. Two pioneer families escape from a Sioux war party, only to find the horrors have just begun. When a boy's sense of smell is enhanced subsequent to a head injury, he finds the experience to be both a blessing and a curse. A young man with a phobia of underpasses finds the cure for his fear is ultimately worse than the disease. Enter the world of Singularities. Calendar Girl

For Addison Fairchild, success is a guarantee. Groomed since childhood to run a division of Fairchild Enterprises, she takes her birthright seriously. Maybe a little too seriously if you ask her friends. But work is so much easier than the rest of her life. Her employees hate her, her best friend is worried about her, and her last date was hide-in-the-restroom awkward. If all that wasn't bad enough, she's stuck with a new cheerful-happy-annoyingly-morning-person assistant just when the head of FE is about to choose a successor—a job Addison wants so badly, she can taste it. For Katie Cooper, money has never been important. That is, until her father gets dementia and needs full time care. As the bills start to pile up, Katie takes a second job as a temporary personal assistant. Two minutes and one spilled cup of coffee later, she's sure she's not ready for Addison Fairchild—her hard head, her know-it-all attitude, or her gorgeous face. Forced to work together, Addison and Kate discover that opposites really do attract.

Pearl River

Pearl River was part of a royal land patent issued to two New York businessmen, Daniel Honan and Michael Hawdon. Honan, the accountant general of New Amsterdam, and Hawdon, a friend of the infamous Captain Kidd. Immigrants later settled in areas they called Nauraushaun, Middletown, Pascack, Sickletown, Orangeville, and Muddy Brook. In the 1870s, Julius Braunsdorf permitted the New York & New Jersey Railroad to run an extension through his property, which gave his new sewing machine factory access to markets and materials. The factory would later be enhanced to produce the first newspaper-folding machines. In 1906, Dr. Ernst Lederle, a former New York health commissioner, began a laboratory to produce antitoxins and other medicines. With the success and growth of these inventors and their businesses, Pearl River became a nationally known company town. Since the opening of the Tappan Zee Bridge, it has evolved into a friendly, modern bedroom community of New York City and the second-largest hamlet in New York State.

From the Publisher: With a focus on the individual group member, The Fundamentals of Small Group Communication encourages readers to reflect on how their communication behaviors and practices contribute to their current small group experiences. In this easy to read text, authors Scott A. Myers and Carolyn M. Anderson introduce students to the fundamental issues faced by all small groups, such as socialization, development, ethics, and diversity, and the procedures utilized by effective small groups. The book is organized around three overarching themes-characteristics of small group communication and the individual group member, the group task, and group member relationships. Each chapter opens with a case study and includes an "Ethically Speaking" box that allows readers to reflect on how ethics is central to the small group communication process. It is intended for undergraduate courses that introduce students to the basic fundamentals of small group communication.

Fruit of the Devil

Ms. Aurora Bourne would do anything to protect her students from harm … even if that means going up against the most powerful corporation on the planet. While getting her fourth grade classroom ready for Fall, Aurora begins to feel sick, and it’s more than back-to-school blues. Outside her windows next to the playground, strawberry fields have just been fumigated and pesticides are drifting into the classrooms, causing serious health issues for children and adults. When the teenage sister of a migrant student goes missing from the strawberry fields, it becomes clear that pesticide poisoning isn’t the only thing threatening the children’s safety, and Aurora begins to understand why farmworkers call strawberries Fruta del Diablo — the Fruit of the Devil. Aurora starts asking questions and gets caught in a web of gangs, drugs, trafficking, and high-level corporate crime. When a Catholic priest comes to her aid, she falls in love with him, complicating her life further. She has no idea he’s actually an ancient nature god out of Pacific Coast indigenous legends.
