Disney Nature: African Cats

In the heart of Africa, the Masai Mara Game Reserve is a place where, in place of justice and fairness, raw power rules the day, and to survive means to fight. Lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, gazelles, and other large mammals roam the vast, rolling plains of the reserve, and with so many species competing for space and food, the stakes are high, and danger looms at every turn./DIV In African Cats: Kingdom of Courage, filmmakers Keith Scholey and Amanda Barrett follow the lives of some of the Masai Mara’s big cats, focusing on two lionesses and a cheetah and her adorable cubs. This companion book to their incredible film offers a fascinating exploration of the unique, yet interwoven, stories of each cat. Filled with stunning photographs of the Kenyan plains and the remarkable animals that reside on them, this book will take you on an unforgettable journey chronicling the struggle to survive.DIV

Current Ornithology

Volume 5 of this series continues its coverage of currently active re search fields in ornithology. Because an editor can never be a disin terested observer of his or her own editorial efforts, any claim for su periority of this volume is not without conflict of interest. Even so, Volume 5 has certain merits that even a parent should acknowledge, and I find the current chapters not merely timely and authoritative but compelling in their demand for a reader's attention. Wolfgang and Roswitha Wiltschko provide a perceptive review of magnetic orientation in birds, a piece dedicated to Fritz Merkel, the pioneer in studies of magnetic orientation. Sergei Kharitonov and Doug las Siegel-Causey are ...

Hertfordshire's Lost Railways

Before the golden age of railways between of 1850 and 1950, Hertfordshire was not subject to commuter sprawl as it is today. Back then, the county was made up of farmland and rolling countryside dotted with market towns. Accompanied by a historic account full of fascinating detail, this collection of fifty-two photographs showcases the many stations and locomotives operating in the county from the early 1900s through to the 1960s. The locations included are: Letchworth, Hitchin, Napsbury, Hemel Hempstead, Stevenage, Marston Gate, Mardock, Widford, Hadham, Standon, Braughing, West Mill, Buntingford, Watford, Croxley Green, Welwyn Garden City, Ayot, Wheathampstead, Harpenden, Roundwood, Redbourn, Beaumont's Halt, Godwin's Halt, Heath Park, Attimore, Cole Green, Hertingfordbury, Rickmansworth, Smallford, St Albans, Stapleford and Carpenter's Park.
