Battleaxe Division
The 78th Division was raised in 1942 specifically for the North African invasion. From the time that the Division landed at Algiers there were to be few easy days, and the campaigning through Tunisia, Sicily and Italy was a tale of bitterly fought actions in a harsh terrain against a skilful enemy. In its first year of action alone, the 78th Division suffered 10,000 casualties. Longstop Hill, Centuripe, Termoli, Cassino, the Gustav Line, the Argenta Gap; there was always one more river to cross, another defended mountain line to breach. Ken Ford brings out how quickly the Division developed its fighting power and shows how success resulted from an all-arms effort by infantry, armour, artillery, transport, and especially engineers. Yet it is the resilience and sacrifice of now vanished County infantry regiments that rightly form the core of the book. Using first hand accounts of men who actually fought with the 78th Division, and fully illustrated with photographs and maps, this is a fitting tribute to the soldiers of the Battleaxe Division.

D-Day Commando
48 Royal Marine Commando began its life in March 1944 and was disbanded in the UK less than two years later in January 1946. In its short but active life it always seemed to be in the thick of the fighting. In fact, a history of 48 RM Commando is a history of the last year of the war in Europe. It participated in the D-Day invasion and landed on Juno Beach on June 6th, 1944, fought as infantry in the bloody battles for Normandy, helped clear the Channel ports, undertook a second amphibious landing during the Walcheren campaign, raided across the Maas in Holland and then took part in the army of occupation in Germany. During the whole of this period it was in almost continuous contact with the enemy. It is surprising, then, that the story of 48 RM Commando has not been made available to a wider audience. Apart from a small booklet written by one of its veterans and published in 1946, it has never been the subject of a complete history of its own. Based on eyewitness accounts, official unit war diaries and published and unpublished sources and supported by a selection of maps, line drawings and archive photographs, this is a gripping and authoritative history of an elite formation.
Rilla of Ingleside Annotated
Rilla of Ingleside (1921) is the eighth of nine books in the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery, but was the sixth "Anne" novel in publication order. This book draws the focus back onto a single character, Anne and Gilbert's youngest daughter Bertha Marilla "Rilla" Blythe. It has a more serious tone, as it takes place during World War I and the three Blythe boys-Jem, Walter, and Shirley-along with Rilla's sweetheart Ken Ford, and playmates Jerry Meredith and Carl Meredith-end up fighting in Europe with the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
