What decides whether a person suffering misfortune bounces back quickly or falls into despair for years? Which processes and mechanisms constitute psychological resilience? Is there a particular, evolutionary-shaped model of human adaptation, which enables a person to maintain mental health in unfavorable and dynamically changing circumstances? All these questions are addressed by the contributors to the monograph titled Resilience and Health in a Fast-Changing World. While searching for the answers the authors refer to an extensive scholarly literature, their own theoretical investigations as well as to the outcomes of empirical researches conducted.
The monograph Health and resilience is a collection of papers providing the reader with an opportunity to look at the issue of mental health and resilience from various perspectives. It examines numerous concepts of resilience as related to patterns of adaptation in adverse contexts. Resilience accordingly can be conceived as good adaptation, effective coping or well-being attained despite of adversities. Technological development impacts employment conditions by changing the production capabilities of modern enterprises, the shape of modern consumption trends, and factors determining the company’s competitiveness. Recently, one significant factor affecting technological development was the COVID-19 pandemic, which subsequently demanded social isolation. This collective work is an attempt to answer the following questions: * Did the COVID-19 pandemic contribute to accelerating the process of implementing innovative solutions as part of Industry 4.0? * To what extent did the COVID-19 pandemic influence changes in employment relations, taking into account the implemented technological innovations? * Did the presented research results indicate a link between the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in democratic processes? In addition, this work explores some transformations in the forms and language of media communication as well as in consumer behavior that have occurred in light of feelings uncertainty and anxiety during the pandemic.
Resilience and Health presents a wide-ranging scientific dialogue on resilience issues interpreted in the following contexts: theoretical and philosophical, in the perspective of lifespan developmental psychology, the experience of chronic disease and disability, as well as in the family and social settings. Bringing together these individual parts is an emphasis on principles of positive psychology.
