Textbook of Liver Transplantation

Liver transplantations require a complex and varied, multidisciplinary approach involving not only hepatologists and surgeons but also pathologists, psychologists, professional educators, nurses and, in the case of young patients, also pediatricians and development experts. This textbook provides an overview of the management problems involved in liver transplantation for acute and chronic liver disease, pediatric liver transplantation and the psychosocial aspects of liver transplantation. First Carlisle: Sir James Hay, First Earl of Carlisle as Courtier, Diplomat and Entrepreneur, 1580-1636

A study of James Hay, a little known 17th-century Scotsman who was a key figure in the early Stuart era. Unlike the vast majority of Scots who entered England with James I, Hay absorbed the culture of England & tried to become a genuine part of it, in order to play an important role for his adopted country on both the nat. & internat. level. For more than 3 decades Hay was at the right hand of those who made the decisions, & advised them on what to decide. Between 1616 & 1629 Hay conducted trips to virtually every major Western European nation. Hay¿s lesser gentry origins, emphasis on civilian gov¿t. employment (as opposed to the military), devotion to the court over the country & ardent entrepreneurship all single him out as a Jacobean aristocrat.

English Episcopal Acta 30: Carlisle 1133-1292

The area comprising what became the counties of Cumberland and Westmorland was long disputed, both politically and ecclesiastically, between the English and Scottish kingdoms. The bishopric of Carlisle was the last see in England to be created before the Reformation changes of the 1540s. This latest volume in the English Episcopal Acta series brings together for the first time an edition of all the surviving charters issued by bishops of Carlisle from 1133 until the death of Bishop Ralph de Ireton in 1292. The extant charters provide great insights into the episcopal administration of this border bishopric for the first 150 years of the see's existence. The introduction provides an account of the diocese, the bishops and their households, discussion of the diplomatic aspects and style of the surviving charters and the episcopal seals. Offering fresh insights into this formative period of English history, this volume will be of interest to scholars and students of ecclesiastical, medieval and local history.
