Steeve est ouvrier. Il travaille à Lyon pour une entreprise en bâtiment sous la férule de son patron, Anthony, qui est très exigeant. Plongé dans son boulot, il en oublie le sens de sa vie. Sa vision du monde étant très limitée, il s'enferme dans son propre quotidien. Un beau jour, un client lui remet un présent qui va changer à ses dépens le cours de sa vie monotone. C'est la porte d'un monde en déclin protégé par des créatures dignes des plus invraisemblables contes de fée qui s'ouvre maintenant à lui.
Les Enfants de la Pouillerie
Les Enfants de la Pouillerie sont, en quelque sorte, la prose plus moderne et tangible des Misérables d'Hugo. Ils sont non seulement le reflet de l'Après-Guerre, du désastre, du chaos et de la peur ambiante, mais aussi de l'amitié et du courage. C'est mélancolique comme Balzac, c'est froid comme Zola. C'est, à n'en pas douter, le récit de jeunes dont le destin s'enchevêtre à celui d'Aubervilliers, la toute-noirceur de Paris, pourtant Ville-Lumière. Ces tranches de vie transportent le lecteur jusque dans le plus creux de la misère. Non pas dans le sens le plus commun, mais dans le sens le plus inopiné, spontané, vivant. C'est, en soi, une réalisation de ce que c'est, sans vulgarité ni fioritures. La pauvreté est un fait accompli, mais ici elle est à la fois tangible et subtile. On en ressort bouleversé. Les ombrelles s'envolent tandis que les murs se construisent, puis s'effondrent. C'est, ici, l'Aubervilliers de Jacques Prévert, celui des Gentils enfants d'Aubervilliers. L'histoire s'est fait connaître et, maintenant, elle a un nom.
Là où dansent les cerfs-volants
À douze ans, Tom est un petit garçon espiègle et plein de vie. Il découvre qu'il est capable d'influencer l'univers afin que tous ses voeux soient exaucés. Élevé seul par sa mère à qui il voue un amour inconditionnel, il décide de faire de leur vie un véritable conte de fées.
