How climate policies impact gender and vice versa in the Nordic countries
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-507/ The Nordic countries have a progressive gender policy, and requirements to ensure gender equality and balance are laid down in laws and national strategies. However, the knowledge on the links between gender and climate change has been lacking documentation and has not been shared with relevant Nordic stakeholders and policy makers. The report seeks to close this knowledge gap. It provides a comprehensive understanding of how climate change policies affect gender and vice versa, and it is clear evidence of the importance of- and need to engage women and minorities in climate policy making. This is an important step towards implementing a climate change policy without negative effects on gender. The study gives an overview of existing and lacking sex-disaggregated data as well as a status regarding gender equality in decision-making related to climate policy in the Nordic countries.
Policy brief: Climate policies are not gender neutral

This policy brief provides conclusions and recommendations based on the report "How climate policies impact gender and vice versa in the Nordic countries".The Nordic countries have set-out ambitious climate mitigation targets that require structural changes of the Nordic societies in terms of how we move, live, eat, and consume in a low carbon manner. Climate action plans draw the paths of how each of the Nordic countries are to realise these climate mitigation targets. While all the Nordic countries acknowledge that climate policies impact gender, the actual gender mainstreaming of the climate action plans is limited. The policy brief provides recommendations on how to move forward towards how gender-responsive climate policies can be ensured.
Pre-study: Indicators on circular economy in the Nordic countries
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2020-543/ A systematic and continuously measurement of the progress towards the circular economy can inform decision making and policies, and thus strengthen the circular transition. However, this pre-study, mapping circular economy indicators across the Nordic countries on both national and sub-national level, reveals that as of 2020, data streams and indicators are missing for the inner loops of the circular economy. A monitoring system embracing only selected aspects of the circular economy (where data is readily available) risks exaggerating the focus on these areas and downgrade the importance of other areas where data is unattainable, even though the latter may (in principle) be creating more circular value (such as prolonging products’ lifetimes).
Measuring waste prevention and reuse: digital opportunities: Using the digitalisation of society to inform policy
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-536/ The data generated in our digital society can be harnessed to generate policy-relevant indicators on waste prevention and reuse, and be used to fill in the gaps left by official data and statistics. This project elaborates where the greatest potentials lie for improving the monitoring of waste prevention and reuse, and presents a roadmap for improving the monitoring of waste prevention in the Nordic countries. This is based mapiping the EU reporting demands for waste prevention and reuse and the methods currently employed in the Nordic countries to measure waste prevention and reuse, as well as an investigation of the methods used in other European countries together with a suite of case studies of novel methods for measuring waste prevention and reuse.
Is economic growth compatible with a sustainable Nordic future?: A review of literature
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2021-542/ A core element of sustainable development strategies is that economic growth is decoupled from resource use and associated environmental degradation. This report examines evidence from literature to evaluate whether absolute decoupling is a realistic long-term solution to rapidly approaching environmental crises. It finds limited evidence for periods of absolute decoupling, despite two decades of green growth policy. Where absolute decoupling in environmental pressures has occurred, this has not been rapid enough to respect planetary boundaries. It makes a number of recommendations to policy makers. These include the consideration of concrete targets for resource use and emissions reductions linked to planetary boundaries and global fair shares, developing consensus on alternative measures for societal progress and accepting low levels of economic growth for the Nordics.
Circular plastics in electrical and electronic equipment
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2021-553/ This report explores what the Nordic countries can do to promote the use of recyclable plastic components in electrical and electronic products, with particular focus on minimising their hazardous chemical component. The report provides an overview of the hazardous additives currently used in the plastic components of EEE, drawing on information available from legislation and supporting studies, research and academia, NGOs and market actors. The results presented here build upon input collected though a literature study, a policy analysis of EU and Nordic legislation and initiatives, interviews with experts across the value chain and an expert workshop. Together these inputs were used to assess and qualify possible future actions in the Nordic countries to minimise hazardous chemicals in plastic components of EEE.

Harald Lander
Harald Lander (1905-71) was the most important figure in the history of the Royal Danish Ballet in the 20th century. During his 19 years as Artistic Director (1932-51) he laid the foundations for the world-wide fame which the company gained in the second part of the century. He changed the training system, choreographed a series of ballets and nursed the Bournonville heritage. In 1951, in the infamous 'Ballet Affair', Lander also became the most controversial figure in the Danish ballet world of the time, when he was accused of sexual harassment of female dancers and of wielding absolute and unpleasant power as Artistic Director of the Royal Danish Ballet.
