En noviembre de 1970 la editorial Tierra Nueva de Montevideo publica La ciudad, de Mario Levrero. Esta fecha bisagra –literariay no política (como sería, en cambio, 1973)– se ha tomado comopunto de partida para seleccionar el conjunto de los veintiséis narradores y narradoras que forman parte del presente volumen antológico dedicado a la prosa de ficción contemporánea de Uruguay.
