When we were first approached by Dr. Lucky to write this book we were very enthusiastic about the prospect, since we had contemplated a similar project for quite some time. The difficulty lay in how best to digest the vast amount of data on optical propagation, reduce it to a book of manageable size, and simultaneously form the transition from the physics of propagation to the engineering of optical channels. Gottlieb Brohman was born in 1809 in Rountzenheim, Alsace, France, and in the 1820's immigrated via New York to Waterloo County, Ontario. He married Catherine Lauber in 1832, and settled in Waterloo Township of Waterloo County. He died in 1977. Includes Goetz, McNab and related families.
Also covers Baker, Devoe, Devoor, Miller and Washburn families.
Stephen Goggin was born in 1697 in Limerick, Ireland. He married Mary Pinchin in 1715. They probably had eight children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri and California. The author hoped to find a connection to Mark Twain, whose family lived near Goggin Mountain in Missouri, but was not able to find any.
Michael Antoine Garoutte (1750-1829) was a son of Antoine Garoutte and Lady Anne de Lascour. In 1775 Michael outfitted two ships in Marseilles, and immigrated (along with large crews of men) to New Jersey to aid the colonists in the Revolutionary War. In 1778 he married Sophia Smith at Pleasant Mills, New Jersey, and they later lived at Tuckahoe and then Pemberton, New Jersey. Descendants and relatives lived in New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Oregon and elsewhere. Includes ancestry and genealogical data to about 1600 in France.
Robert Desha (b.ca.1715), probably the son of a Huguenot immigrant, married Mary Everfieldt and lived in Northampton County, Pennsyl- vania. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico and elsewhere.
