Prescribed Life

Seventeen year old Leah Clark once roamed Whetstones halls without direction, as a loner against ludicrous lifestyles. While other students rehearsed their roles living ritualistic reputations, she often acted on impulses by skipping lines, and rebelling against the rubric. Unfortunately, a passion for politics wasn't enough when it came to scholastic survival. Before the high school senior's grades reached rock bottom, her mother flipped frantically through the yellow pages, seeking professional help. Luckily a local shrink was able to diagnose her psychological symptoms, and pinpoint a probable solution. However, Leah couldn't help feeling skeptical as an unknown antidote was filled in her...

Courtly Mediators

  • Categories: Art

In Courtly Mediators, Leah R. Clark investigates the exchange of a range of materials and objects, including metalware, ceramic drug jars, Chinese porcelain, and aromatics, across the early modern Italian, Mamluk, and Ottoman courts. She provides a new narrative that places Aragonese Naples at the center of an international courtly culture, where cosmopolitanism and the transcultural flourished, and in which artists, ambassadors, and luxury goods actively participated. By articulating how and why transcultural objects were exchanged, displayed, copied, and framed, she provides a new methodological framework that transforms our understanding of the Italian Renaissance court. Clark's volume provides a multi-sensorial, innovative reading of Italian Renaissance art. It demonstrates that the early modern culture of collecting was more than a humanistic enterprise associated with the European roots of the Renaissance. Rather, it was sustained by interactions with global material cultures from the Islamic world and beyond.

Todd Morris has finally achieved his dream of playing professional football. It took him years to do it, and it's a low-level professional team, but he pulled it off. However, his cousin Clark is not okay with this. Clark has nothing going for himself, and he thinks he's the smartest person in the world. In his own version of an equal pay movement, he begins kidnapping professional athletes and holding them in prisonlike conditions until he gets paid what they get paid. The athletes are given the promise that if they can successfully escape, Clark will set everyone free and pretend like the situation never happened. Knowing his cousin better than anyone else, Todd gets himself taken away, with the thought process that he might be able to escape if he knew what the other athletes had to work with. While in prison, he recruits women's soccer players, Jacquelyn Ramsey and Shauna Weber, to help him. The two ladies are hesitant to start, but eventually, they begin to trust that Todd knows what he's doing.
