Lemon Grove
Lemon Grove dates to 1892 when it first appeared in the San Diego County records as Lemon Grove. The tiny, whistle-stop town emerged during the second gold rush, the rise of Californias citrus industry, which was facilitated by the 1849 Gold Rush, the break up of the Mexican ranchos in Alta California, and the advent of statehood for California in 1850. Land speculators poured into California, lured by the exquisite climate, five growing seasons, and the possibilities for success in agriculture and business. Lemon Grove became home to gentlemen farmers from the East and Midwest, whose descendants live on in the community to this day.

The records relate to churches and religious organizations, cultural affairs, economic conditions, education, Lemon Grove, schools, social conditions, social services agencies, and women.
Lemon Grove Mexican-American school desegregation case documents
Collection of three documents relating to a school desegregation case involving Mexican-American children at Lemon Grove, California. Includes a 2 p. manuscipt response of the Mexican-American community in Lemon Grove, Calif., to the local school board's attempt to create a segregated Mexican school in the district. The remaining two documents are typed letters from Enrique Ferreira, Mexican Consul at San Diego, relating to the case. Accompanied by English translations.
