The book expands and formalizes the conceptual foundations of Climate-Smart Agriculture, drawing upon theory and concepts from agricultural development, institutional and resource economics. The book uses economic lens to identify the main features of CSA, its likely impact, and the challenges associated with its implementation. It is a product of the EPIC team in the ESA division and contributes to SO2 OO2. Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) is a concept that calls for integration of the need for adaptation and the possibility of mitigation in agricultural growth strategies to support food security. Several countries around the world have expressed intent to adopt CSA approach to managing their agricultural sectors. However there is considerable confusion about what the CSA concept and approach actually involve, and wide variation in how the term is used. It is critical to build a more formal basis for the CSA concept and methodology and at the same time providing illustrations of how the concept can be applied across a range of conditions.

Citizenship is felt most strongly with those that we are closely connected with, either by physicality or ideology. In a world where connectivity is changing our perception of citizenship we consider who holds the power to bring about change. This volume looks at the role played by various actors seeking or discouraging environmental justice. We consider the role of actors ranging from individual citizens working at a grassroots level through to governments and the media. We also look at the role that education has to play in environmental justice from the classrooms to policy directions at the United Nations. Theories of environmental justice and citizenship are explored in conjunction with case studies to provide a thought-provoking look at power relationships for environmental justice in the start of the 21st century.
This report presents results of a study to assess the use of foresight modeling tools and outputs produced since 2012 and funded through Flagship 1, Cluster 1.1 of the CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM). The goal of this study is to examine how the tools and outputs of foresight modeling supported by PIM through Flagship 1 (hereafter “PIM-supported foresight modeling”) have been used by stakeholders. The study aims to identify as many uses of and outcomes from the PIM-supported foresight modeling as possible. It is by no means comprehensive, but it does cover usage by a wide range of stakeholders from across the CGIAR system, other international organizations, academia, and national governments.
