We are Knights on the Trajectories of a Post-everything Era
How do we know and understand who we really are as human beings? The concept of 'the self' is central to many strands of psychology and philosophy. This book tackles the problem of how to define persons and selves and discusses the ways in which different disciplines, such as biology, sociology and philosophy, have dealt with this topic. Richard S. Hallam examines the notion that the idea of the self as some sort of entity is a human construction and, in effect, a virtual reality. At the same time, this virtual self is intimately related to the reality of ourselves as biological organisms. Aiming to integrate a constructionist understanding of self with the universalizing assumptions that are needed in natural-science approaches, this text is unique in its attempt to create a dialogue across academic disciplines, while retaining a consistent perspective on the problem of relating nature to culture.

His videos, collages and performances reference Saint Just, Montesqieu, Walther Pater Patrick Procter as well as Beyonce, Jeff Koons and the Spice Girls. 7 Windmill Street W1 is the first survey catalogue of his various activities. Conceived as a source book of his working methods and fields of interest, it has been edited by the artist and features images of his main productions, as well as a wealth of other visual materials he has gathered through the years. In addition to original contributions by the artist, it includes reprints of texts from Michel Leiris, and the 19th century-writer Walter Pater, and song lyrics.

At the interface between art and dress, St. Gallen offers a great number of creative themes that have been assembled and for the first time shown in a museal collaboration. Akris, in the Textile Museum; Dresscode, in the Historical Museum; Lifestyle, in the Art Museum; and Modus in the Neue Kunst Halle - these exhibitions constitute a co-operative project on the theme of art and fashion. Schnittpunkt: Art and Dress St. Gallen is not only the collaboration of four separate museums, it is also an exclusive co-operation between the St. Gallen textile industry and the participating artists. Reaching beyond the dialectic of difference typical of so many exhibitions of "non-Western" artists, this collection by a twenty-first-century generation (all participants are between ages 35 and 42) aims to construct a new definition of contemporary African positions.
