School Leadership
This text provides a study of the education policy scholarship of leadership. It examines the ways in which concepts of educational leadership and management have evolved historically and culturally, reviewing contemporary debates about the nature of school leadership.; The question of what school leadership could and should be is at the centre of political, ideological and educational debate in many societies. These debates involve cultural conservatives, New Right marketeers, democrats and community educators, feminists and critical theorists as well as school governors, headteachers and teachers, parents, community members and school students.; These debates are reviewed and the theoretical context is illuminated by fieldwork accounts derived from the research participation of 88 headteachers working in English schools, both primary and secondary. Such accounts provide an insight into the challenges of contemporary school leadership as headteachers face new power relationships, new curriculum responsibilities and management and marketing cultures which generate moral, ethical and professional dilemmas for many of them.

Enhancing Autonomy in Language Education
The book explores the idea that pedagogy for autonomy requires the integration of teacher and learner development and can be enhanced through a case-based approach in teacher education. A case-based approach values experiential professional learning and expands professional competences necessary to promote autonomy in schools: developing a critical view of (language) education; managing local constraints so as to open up spaces for manoeuvre; centring teaching on learning; interacting with others in the professional community. Two strategies to implement the approach are presented and illustrated. The first one involves teachers in designing, implementing and evaluating experiences of pedagogy for autonomy, which are the basis for writing professional narratives and building a case portfolio. The second draws on teachers’ pedagogical experience as the basis for the construction of case materials where experiential elements are combined with theoretical input and reflective tasks, so that the teachers who use those materials can reflect about and explore their own practice.

Rethinking Sustainable Development in Terms of Justice
The need to reassess the discourse of sustainable development in terms of equity and justice has grown rapidly in the last decade. Papers presented during the 3rd Meeting of Art History celebrated in Valparaiso in 2006 and where for the first time Pre-Columbian art was included as one of the main categories. Esta obra representa un esfuerzo por retomar el concepto de la peregrinación y repensarlo críticamente a la luz de nuevas investigaciones. Con este fin, ofrece trece estudios realizados en las más diversas regiones de México y el mundo, entre las que se incluyen el Centro de México y el Bajío, África sur-central y el Rif marroquí, el este de Asia (China imperial y contemporánea), la alta planicie del Tibet, los archipiélagos de Melanesia y Estados Unidos de América. Uno de los objetivos de esta compilación es problematizar nociones establecidas en torno al peregrinaje ofreciendo nuevas formas de entender la construcción y la experiencia de los paisajes culturales, la percepción del espacio, del desplazamiento y de la condición de la persona y el grupo, así como la creciente importancia del turismo y la migración en contextos transnacionales actuales.
