Enjoy the ride as the author, poem by poem, dives deeper in search of greater meaning and inner peace. KIRKUS REVIEW Hugueney (Poems for the Soul, 2016) offers an elegantly crafted journey of self-exploration through poetry. In a recent issue of The New Yorker, Ruth Franklin wrote about the persistent popularity of poet Mary Oliver, arguing that Olivers strength is her accessibility: she writes blank verse in a conversational style, with no typographical gimmicks. Reading this description, its easy to see why Hugueney calls Oliver beloved, because t...

Caffeic acid is a phenolic acid naturally occurring in many plant foods such as carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, and several berries. It is also present in multiple beverages such as coffee, fruit juices and wine. Moreover, caffeic acid is one of the major active components in many traditional Chinese medicines. As a natural product, it possesses several biological and physiological activities. These activities include antioxidant, anti-mutagenic, anti-tumor and anti-obesity effects. For these reasons, caffeic acid is also being developed into drug for sale, for instance, for its use in the development of asthmatic and allergenic drugs. Although caffeic acid, together with other polyphenols, are not essential nutrients, they are secondary metabolites synthesised by plants with bioactive properties, also known as phytochemicals, which may have an important effect on human health. This book reviews sources, potential uses and health benefits of caffeic acid.

There can be little doubt that there are truly colossal challenges associated with providing food, fibre and energy for an expanding world population without further accelerating already rapid rates of biodiversity loss and undermining the ecosystem processes on which we all depend. These challenges are further complicated by rapid changes in climate and its additional direct impacts on agriculture, biodiversity and ecological processes. There are many different viewpoints about the best way to deal with the myriad issues associated with land use intensification and this book canvasses a number of these from different parts of the tropical and temperate world. Chapters focus on whether science can suggest new and improved approaches to reducing the conflict between productive land use and biodiversity conservation. Who should read this book? Policy makers in regional, state and federal governments, as well as scientists and the interested lay public.
