Introducing Christian Ministry Leadership

The demand for integrity—genuine spirituality, exemplary character, and competent skills—among ministry leaders has never been greater. This book introduces students and beginning practitioners to the theological and practical elements that make for healthy leadership and leaders in Christian ministry. How ministry leaders understand who God is and who they themselves are governs every aspect of their work and well-being, and how they understand the nature of the church and their role as ministry leaders forms their sense of purpose and identity. This book is written from the perspective of ministry leadership in Christian traditions with congregational polity, but there is much that app...

Following the Lamb

Jesus' parting words to his followers were for them to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" (Matt 28:19). This being the case, shouldn't we be concerned with gaining a full understanding of discipleship from the entire New Testament corpus? Many scholars recognize that the theme of discipleship is found throughout the New Testament, even in Revelation, with all of its symbolism and bizarre imagery. But how does it do this? The focus of this study, through the use of content analysis methodology, is to demonstrate that the theme of discipleship is not only found in the Apocalypse, but is also exceedingly relevant for Christians today. In many parts of the world Jesus' disciples are facing opposition and persecution for their testimony to Jesus Christ. It would do Christians well to read the book of Revelation once again. As they read it this time through the eyes of the oppressed, the content of the book will prove extremely valuable to aid disciples of Jesus in their efforts to "follow the Lamb wherever he goes" (Rev 14:4), no matter what the cost.

Principles and Practices of Christian Education

Principles and Practices of Christian Education shows teachers how they can use two important principles that stand behind all evangelical practices to make their education program stand out from all the others in its nurture of students. First, evangelical Christian education recognizes the need for conversion-personal and corporate transformation that reconnects people to their Creator. Second, evangelical Christian education strives for connection-making contact with people as unique individuals who live in a particular society and who need to know more about scripture. In this book Christian education students learn that the work for which they prepare is a partnership with God to transform people. Their central task is worship, but through it and other activities they lead others to faith, commitment, and transformation of communities.

Why God?

For more than 150 years, a cold war has engulfed the world. Two feuding factions contend, not for military dominance, but for cultural sovereignty. Those caught in the middle are forced to choose sides. It is only a matter of time until this cold war escalates into a violent conflict. The victorious will have supreme rule over the world. The defeated will be utterly eradicated. Whose side will you choose? Do you think this is just some fictitious war story? Think again. This is real life. On one side is religion. On the other is conventional science and logic. These two sides fight for the right to define what is true. Many people are forced every day to decide which one is right. Who, if an...
