Esta obra discute “o estatuto ontológico das línguas” em áreas como a Linguística e a Linguística Aplicada. Questionando a centralidade do signo linguístico nos processos de significação, faz um convite à imaginação daquilo que chamamos língua como linguagens que articulam múltiplos recursos semióticos que se (re)agregam em determinados tempos-espaços interacionais. Essa reorientação desloca o foco analítico da linguagem em si para a colaboração de vários elementos – espaço, lugar, tempo, corpos, objetos, signos e textos – que atuam conjuntamente na produção de configurações sempre incompletas e imprevisíveis. Tal perspectiva contribui para pesquisas em campos afins como Comunicação, Educação e Ciências Sociais, entre outros. Organizadores: Branca Falabella Fabrício e Rodrigo Borba são professores da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), onde atuam no Programa Interdisciplinar de Pós-Graduação em Linguística Aplicada (Pipgla/UFRJ).

Estudos queer em linguística aplicada indisciplinar: gênero, sexualidade, raça e classe
Em tempos nos quais governos e partidos de extrema direita em várias partes do mundo se dedicam a fazer política baseando-se nas velhas narrativas e nas renovadas tentativas de controle dos corpos, é imperioso esboçar resistência à anacronia na contemporaneidade. É urgente incitar à liberdade. Estudos queer em linguística aplicada indisciplinar: gênero, sexualidade, raça e classe empreendem essa tarefa vislumbrando o mundo online offline no qual vivemos. A formalização de uma dimensão interseccional nas teorias queer é fundamental para que o gênero e a sexualidade passem a ser considerados em conjunto com os atravessamentos dos corpos promovidos pela classe social, pela raça, pela etnia, pela religião, idade, nacionalidade etc.

Discourse and Identity
The relationship between language, discourse and identity has always been a major area of sociolinguistic investigation. In more recent times, the field has been revolutionized as previous models - which assumed our identities to be based on stable relationships between linguistic and social variables - have been challenged by pioneering new approaches to the topic. This volume brings together a team of leading experts to explore discourse in a range of social contexts. By applying a variety of analytical tools and concepts, the contributors show how we build images of ourselves through language, how society moulds us into different categories, and how we negotiate our membership of those categories. Drawing on numerous interactional settings (the workplace; medical interviews; education), in a variety of genres (narrative; conversation; interviews), and amongst different communities (immigrants; patients; adolescents; teachers), this revealing volume sheds light on how our social practices can help to shape our identities.
