Inclusive Christianity

Jesus was inclusive, forgiving and compassionate. It is unfortunate that many within the Christian community have distorted Jesus' message, leading to a version of faith that is divisive, judgmental and intolerant. Parameters are set that define people as worthy or unworthy, saved or unsaved. In bringing God's radical grace and love into the world, Jesus rebelled against any religious or social conventions that placed people into acceptable and unacceptable categories. Inclusive Christianity reclaims the authentic voice of Jesus, unclouded by the prejudices placed upon him by others. This compelling and progressive look at faith embraces a life modeled and taught by Jesus!a path that will transform you into the person God intended.

Unmasking Apocalyptic Texts

"In this original and insightful book, Dorothy Jonaitis offers a refreshing alternative to the popular view of biblical apocalyptic writing as gloom-and-doom, fire-and-brimstone literature. Rather, she presents it as literature of hope and its authors as people who knew how to use their creative imaginations to communicate their hope-filled messages. The reader will come to see the apocalyptic authors of both the Old and the New Testaments as dramatists and will learn to preach, teach, and imagine their writings as dramatic messages to be applied in contemporary times of crisis."--BOOK JACKET.

Bible Stories Revisited

Bible Stories Revisited, Luke and the Acts of the Apostles by Sr. Macrina Scott, OSF"Many of us learned Bible stories as children. When we revisit them later in life we bring a rich treasure of life experience that gives a depth and meaning to the stories. At the same time, the Biblical stories help us to appreciate and share stories from our own lives." From the Introduction In her examination of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, Macrina Scott gives special attention to those stories and issues particularly characteristic of Luke's writings: concern for the disadvantaged--especially women, the poor and cultural minorities--and prayer. Through a spiritual look at the stories u...

Beyond the Call

This is the incredible story about the role of a particular group of religious women who came to Florida and Georgia immediately following the Civil War. This book relates the story of the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, FL. These French Sisters came in 1866 to educate the liberated slaves. Floridas first Bishop, Augustin Verot invited them from the City of Le Puy in south central France where the Congregation had been founded in 1650. The central piece of the story is about the first eight Sisters and those who followed them in establishing free schools, academies, the founding of orphanages, nursing during yellow fever epidemics (1877, 1888), teaching in Public Schools, Americanization of the Congregation, dynamics in dealing with Bishops in America, separation and excommunication, teaching the Apache Indians, their arrest in 1916 for teaching Black students. There are many letters written by the French Sisters to their comrades and family members in France in the late 1800s giving the real story and the local color of the experiences.
